1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / advice on dying my dress on: September 17, 2011 03:00:47 AM
First things first, I don't know if this is the right place for this so please feel free to move it!

I bought a dress a little while ago, the shape is lovely and it has the cutest little black heart shaped polka dots....but it's yellow, bright yellow.
I'm really not sure I'm a yellow person, atleast not bright yellow anyway. So I figured I could dye it...but here lies my problem. I've only ever dyed white clothes before, and after reading it would appear that the yellow would show through, so if I tried to dye it blue it would come out green and if I tried to dye it red it would come out orange...not really what I want! I read that pre-dying would be the answer to my problems, but I don't want to lose my lovely little polka-hearts - they're my favourite bit of the dress!

So what I wanted to ask is, do I have any other options? Am I going to have to sacrafice a decent colour for cute polka dots, or sacrafice my polka dots for a decent colour...Basically I want to have my cake and eat it Sad

now i have a couple of questions:
1) tc is triple crochet right? would you say it's a uk triple crochet or a us triple crochet?
2) what does '2 tc under ch-2 space' mean??

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / dress prototype on: January 20, 2010 03:25:19 PM

made as a practise run
i need to practise my scallops so they're less buckled but other than that i think i'm ready to make the real thing (also: must buy white thread, i had to use pink - oops!)

EDIT: i'd like to add that this dress was made for myself, and despite only being 19 i try not to consider myself as a child anymore, so whoever reported this to be moved to kids clothing; thanks for the thought, but it's definately an adult dress Wink

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / anyone know how i'd go about making a feather collar? on: December 10, 2009 07:56:22 AM
like this

i'm guessing a basic fabric collar with feathers sewn on in layers??
what kind of feathers would i use and where could i get them from? i've got some craft feathers left over from a cowboy and indians party but they're to artificial looking (not to mention pink, green purple etc..) and have a tendency to bald and gap easily
