1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: How to wrap diaper wreaths? on: September 12, 2009 10:22:55 PM
I have given a few out but I don't wrap them. Two people immediately put them up so everyone could see it at the shower, and one other I gave at the hospital and they put it on the hospital door. I just make sure that I have a "top" and a "bottom" for hanging purposes and a ribbon or something to put it up with. They make great decorations, even for a welcome home gift. Smiley
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Are wedding photographers REALLY this expensive!?!?! on: May 09, 2009 04:40:40 PM
Last night we were just at a wedding of a couple who choose point and shoots on each table. That was their plan since the wedding was occuring on a very small budget and time frame (he left for deployment this morning!). At the end of the night only a few of the cameras had been used, this was also because most of us have digitals and we taking pictures with those.
I brought my camera and took over 180 pictures in the 2 hours we were there. One thing I wish was that they would have made a list of the pictures that meant the most, I felt like we missed a few because I had no one to help me. Also who ever you get to shoot for you make sure you tell them who the VIPs are, meaning you'd be upset if you ended up with only 2 poses of Great Grandma but the 15 of your friend from work, KWIM?
Also if you want pictures of just the dress, or other details see if your photographer will take those as you're getting ready, that way there's not any time lost waiting for everyone to get going. (I've yet to go to a wedding that has started on time, whether it was 5 mins late or an hour late)
Craiglist has been mentioned before, and I would take the time to look there for sure. I see ads all the time of budding photographers trying to get their portfolios together and only charging 50 - 100 dollars for the day. If you know any studio photographers ask them if they might do it, or if they know someone. I have a friend that I worked with who traded airline tickets (bride worked for American Airlines) for shooting their wedding. She stayed from the set up till tear down too. They ended with about 800 pictures by the end of the night. She even had a friend go with to help her.

This is a great idea! I also love that the eggs are still usable for next year, if they make it through that is.  Wink
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / Re: Recycled gallon jug into cute easter basket on: March 25, 2009 10:44:44 PM
Wow, this brings back memories! I had a basket similar to this (mine was made from a bleach bottle) when I was still an egg hunter.  Yours is super cute, I like the "frillies".

Oh yeah, forgot to ask but did you resize the collar at all?

What a great idea! I wonder if I could do this with some of Daddy's old polos for my little ones......hmmmm I must try now. This would be great for all those funky colored polos on the racks of my favorite thrift store.
7  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Denim Rag Quilts on: March 23, 2009 03:36:11 PM
They look super comfy, I had a denim quilt when I was little that I absolutly loved. They last forever!! I like that you did the ragging effect, I didn't think of that...you see I have a box of jeans hanging out in the garage waiting to be transformed. I think I'm gonna have to look at the colored jeans on my next trip out though.
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Thomas the Tank Engine bag on: March 20, 2009 10:18:06 PM
Cute bag, all of my little people love Thomas too! I haven't seen that fabric before, I like it.
Great work - and I know what you mean about the messing up thing, tried making reversible goodie bags and gave up after the first two!  Cheesy
9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: *Tilting 4 patch baby quilt - Fun Fabrics* on: March 17, 2009 11:01:03 PM
What a great quilt! The pattern you choose is very eye catching, I love it.  Grin
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Re: Brave exposure (5 pics) on: March 03, 2009 09:31:41 AM
Be proud of yourself, you have an eye for contrast. Please remember that you may take 100 photos and only get a handful that you really love, it's the way it works in photography. Sometimes it helps to stop looking at them for a while and come back, I know I have some that I didn't like at the time, but later on really fell in love with.
The cropping you're talking about at Walmart is called digital cropping, and instead of a true 4x6 it's a 4x5.something, you can opt out of that, at least I know you can online, however it still changes the cropping slightly.
Good luck, and keep working at it, a good photographer never stops trying!  Wink
