51  Boa Hat for mom... in Knitting: Completed Projects by rhythmgrl on: November 30, 2004 12:16:51 PM
Over thanksgiving, I dragged my mom to JoAnns since we don't have any within a one hour trip of where I live, and she picked out some Boa yarn for herself (It was on sale - 2 for $5).  Here's the hat I made for her this morning.  It was quick knitting.  I carried along a sport weight yellow-orange wool yarn and knitted them on size 10.5 needles.  I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do...

It's in the Phoenix colorway.  Now, all I have to do is a scarf and a few pairs of socks for her, hopefully by next week.  ACK!

thanks for the compliments!  i love them/it(fabric) too Grin
~ the pattern is based on one of my basic purse designs that i sell (i have to make some extra income while i'm in grad school  Tongue )
~ the fabric i picked up for a great deal from my fabric guy in nyc.  such a great deal that i ended up buying a total of 28yds of it.  i'm pretty much a fabric junkie, so much so that i had to devise a whole system of organizing them to get it out of piles and off the floor...  and that only took care of about half of the fabric i have...   Cheesy

so they're not knitted...  Wink
but yesterday, i decided to make a 'roll your own needle case' for my trip this week.  when i got home today, i thought, well the needle case can't stand alone, it needs a knitting bag... but i'd rather have a messenger bag so  it can double for my classes.  i threw in a small drawstring bag for scissors, a measuring tape, and a tapestry needle.  can we say OVERBOARD?Huh?!!!!

here's everything together:

oddly enough, i've never been much for matching things, but for some reason i was compelled this time around. YAY!! Cheesy

54  Re: knitty's kyoto in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by rhythmgrl on: November 21, 2004 06:54:09 AM
Okay - here's my progress... I've been a knitting fool.  Good news is, my roommate now understands my obsession with knitting as I gave her a lesson Friday and she woke up yesterday morning thinking, "I've gotta knit!"

I think the finished height of the sash is about 8.5"  It seemed to take forever, but I think it'll look nice. I did the little bands of color 10 rows into knitting, I just couldn't see how after one row it would have a nice effect, so I tweaked it.  Overall, it's definitely smaller than the measurements given in the pattern, but I'm hoping blocking will cure that in the long run Smiley

Shawnkyr - I also like the color of yours, and don't think that it needs to be frogged.
Elisha - can't wait to see the top color for yours!!

So I bought this fabric from my fabric guy for dirt cheap!!  AND I LOVE IT!!  I'm not planning on wearing the top and the skirt together as that would be TOO much...

Sorry the picture's crappy for the top, but it was tough to capture!!  Wink

close up of the pattern

This was the first design of my own for anything knitted and the first time I tried inlaid color - although I don't think it was really intarsia and definitely not fair isle...

I'd love to hear what anyone thinks of it Smiley
