11  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Fat Pug becomes a Bee! on: November 03, 2008 07:21:06 AM
Mr Darcy, my pug, is so tolerant of my crafting. Here he is, a happy little bee! This was my first time making anything for a dog, and without a pattern. It had to be cheap and easy, so it's just felt. The wings, we bought at the dollar store. This was inspired by the fact that Darcy is SOOOOOOO fat!

Enjoy!

12  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / The BEST "home sweet home" sign you will EVER see! on: October 22, 2008 12:33:45 PM
Okay, so my brother and his boyfriend bought a house this Autumn, and I wanted to give them a unique housewarming gift. They have a good sense of humour, and so I knew I had a good idea!

Here's the finished "home sweet home" sign I made for them:

Notice the two "male roosters"...ha ha ha!

They were thrilled with it and immediately put it on display.

Comments welcome, and "this rocks" votes are encouraged!
13  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Amazing figurine: Rory Gilmore from "Gilmore Girls" on: October 08, 2008 06:53:31 AM
Hey,

So I'm super proud of this figurine I did for a swap. Wanted to share it in its rightful home, in the poly clay section.

This is Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls, specifically from the "You Jump, I Jump Jack" episode, where she and Logan jump off the scaffolding holding umbrellas in formal wear. If you haven't seen the scene, look at this; go to youtube and put this code in the search bar: BU5LUrKetpM

She is about 6" tall; here she is from the front:

Her dress is tissue paper and ribbon. And the side:

Her hair is doll hair, and her umbrella was a drink umbrella. From the back:

I'd love to hear your comments, and if you like her, please click "this rocks"!
14  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / I think I HATE Premo! on: September 14, 2008 04:18:13 PM
Okay, so I keep hearing that Premo is better than Sculpey or Super Sculpey; but here is what has happened when I tried it out:
1. The first batch I got was crumbly and I had to return it.
2. The second batch (sent straight from the supplier) was still really stiff, so I assume it's usually stiffer than Sculpey or SS..which sucks, cuz I have tendon problems and can't work hard clay.
3. I tried Sculpey softener and still only got mediocre results.
4. The colours leached out onto my hands and pasta machine.

Are these things normal? I'm so miserable! I want to make my stuff with good clay that won't be as breakable, etc., but this sucks! And the only other poly clay I can find in town is Fimo -- none of the other ones people like. And I KNOW Fimo is too hard on my hands, plus it's stupid expensive. Siiiiiigh. This has totally turned me off my plan of doing a bunch of poly altoid tins for Christmas gifts.

Suggestions would be helpful.

16  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / New idea: "Craft my Celebrity Crush" Swap! on: August 19, 2008 11:57:14 AM
Okay, wouldn't this be the COOLEST? A swap, where your partner makes you crafts based on your celebrity crush? Maybe you could even choose a couple of your faves. I mean, I would literally KILL to have some sort of Nick Stokes from CSI craft! Or a Jim Halpert craft! Or a Dara Tores craft!

What a fun way to make fun of our own lovesickness. What do ya'll think?

PS. If someone decides to run with this swap, please please please don't start it 'til October! September is way too busy with back to school!
17  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Glue for gluing things to Sculpey/Poly clay on: August 19, 2008 10:05:36 AM
I tried to look through the FAQ for this, and it's just such a mish-mash!

Okay, so I am making an Altoids tin covered in Sculpey. I've baked it, and painted it, but I had a piece of bamboo that I had compressed into the clay, which fell off after baking. The indent of where the bamboo had been is still there, and the clay is baked, so I really just need to know: what kind of glue can I use to make this REALLY secured to my box?

I'm on a time limit, too, this is for a swap, so someone heeeeelp!
18  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / "THE OFFICE" (North American version) SWAP, PLEASE! on: July 25, 2008 06:38:09 AM
I don't know if it's been done before, but I really, really would like to see a "The Office" swap done...hopefully the North American version, because I don't watch the British one, lol. There are so many great images, icons, phrases, and characters and props that could be turned into wonderful crafts!
19  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Incense and Peppermints! on: July 25, 2008 06:31:27 AM

I did this for my first swap: the Hippy Swap Round 2. It's made of Sculpey, which I painted and varnished. I was inspired by the song "Incense and Peppermints" by Strawberry Alarmclock.

Another shot of the incense burner--groovy, man!

Tell me what you think!
20  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Album cover on a cigar box -- img heavy on: July 25, 2008 06:24:03 AM
I did this box for the Hippy Swap Round 2, and wanted to share it in this category for all to see, I was so happy with how it came out!

I got a cigar box from the craft store, and my partner really likes Janis Joplin, so I found an album cover from her band on the internet, and recreated it on the lid of the box.

Here's the image I worked from, beside the box itself.

Detail shot. It's a little streaky, hand-done-looking, but so was the original album cover: I actually think the original was done with magic markers!

Another detail shot. For the faces on the flowers, I photocopied the faces to the right size and glued them on, then varnished the whole thing.

Inside the box, I painted a record and made a label out of cardstock, then varnished it all in. A great place to keep special keepsakes!
