I just almost cried. You win mom of the year in my book. It's rare that someone change the feeling a child has from "different" to "special".

4  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / CLOTH DIAPERS: HOW TO? on: March 09, 2010 04:41:14 PM
OK, so, I am due in July and I NEED to use cloth diapers, plastic are absolutely out of the question.

I would like to make my own, but after doing some online research I am completely confused about many things.

What kind of fabric should I use?
How many layers of fabric?
Should I make liners?
If I make liners, what do I make them out of?
Should I invest in the snap machine or just go with pins?
How many should I make?
Any other tips?

Please help me, this is my first and I have no real life peers that have done this before me...

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Pirate and Mermaid cousins (made for my little neice and nephew who are cousins) on: December 23, 2009 09:08:01 PM
Aren't they a charming duo? A skinny little (french?) pirate and his beautiful mermaid cousin. They don't have names yet, I am going to leave that up to the niece and nephew, but they do have accessories! The pirate has a treasure chest full of chocolate booty, and he comes with a skull and crossbones bandanna for a real little boy to wear. The mermaid comes with barrettes and a matching headband for my little niece and she comes with a seashell bracelet and a starfish bracelet so she can be best friends with her new mommy. All together they took me about 5 hours, not including breaks and photo shoot =D

Her hair is my favorite part. It took over and hour and it is ten rows of single strands of yarn individually sewn on. I didn't even care how tedious it was because it is such beautiful mermaid hair!

Their eyes were originally going to be buttons, but I am glad I just did sharpie instead. Their little mouths are a pink fabric marker. The decision to go with the mustache was a tough one, but in the end i am happy. I am glad i did not choose to do a goatee as well...eww.

And of course, cat shot. She is normally a ham, but I think sensing the superior beauty of the mermaid she fled, not wishing to look sub par.

What do you think?

9  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Re: 17 metres of sequins later.... RUBY SLIPPERS! on: August 30, 2009 05:25:54 PM
Wow! kudos to figuring out how to do these quickly! I tried many times to make these. In high school i tried sewing individual sequins onto shows, but quickly quit. I eventually put glue and red glitter in the black parts of a pair of wing tips that i had. I now own a pair of red glittery shoes from Rocketdog...but alas they are too small. I am steeling your idea and I love you!
