3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / creepy cute costume? on: August 29, 2009 09:57:52 AM
So I'm currently brainstorming like crazy for what to be for Halloween this year. I'd like to be something at least kind of creepy so I can have fun with makeup/fake stitches/bruises/cuts/blood/whatever, but I'll be spending it with my LDR boyfriend and all his friends so I'd like to still look a little sexy/cute, you know? I can sew or reconstruct, so the outfit isn't a problem once I think of what it should be.

any ideas? (a plus would be if it was something I could do with my boyfriend, not necessarily a couple costume but maybe something related, but its not necessary)

thanks a bunch!
4  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / lace gloves frustration on: November 03, 2008 06:58:13 AM
Hey everybody
I've read through the other threads here and many on the SNB forums, and I still can't get an answer to my problem with the ladylike lace gloves. After my first row of clusters, then you sc in the clusters and 2 sc in the ch 2 spaces. It tells me that I should then have 50 stitches, but I consistently have 45! I really thought I was following the pattern correctly, I've done it a few times up til that row and it always turns out the same even though I'm very careful to follow the directions (or so I thought!)

Am I just messing something up, or is this a problem someone else has had? Thanks
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Craft Night For College Kids? on: September 19, 2008 05:06:59 PM
I'm in residence at college and since my RA knows how crafty I am she's asked me if I would host a Christmas Craft Night in November/December. There are tons of great ideas on all the boards here, but I'm not really sure what other college students would like! It should probably be on the easier side, without a ton of expense for supplies. I have craft experience at least of some sort in nearly all areas. (Oh, and we're on the alcohol free floor so nothing boozy)

So suggestions for crafts that a group of college students might be interested in?
6  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Stained Glass Birdie on: June 04, 2008 04:40:54 PM

He was kind of hard to photograph since I havent hung him up yet, but I'm pretty proud of him since he's my first stained glass project! I'm going to make him some brothers and sisters and hang my little flock up in my dorm room window this fall : )

The blue of his wing is textured, it almost looks like little feathers, I love it. I cant wait to try some different colour combinations!
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Embroidering a Sweater/ Heat n Bond - Help please! on: May 26, 2008 08:28:36 AM
So being the crazy girlfriend that I am, I've dreamed up the idea of embroidering on the back of a sweater for my boyfriend for his birthday in July. I've done a few small stitching projects before, and quite a bit of cross-stitch, but nothing like this. I have a pretty large pattern (it'll take up most of the back, in the center) that I'd like to embroider. It will be all outlines, no solid blocks of colour or anything like that. After searching google and the boards here I have a few questions.

Stabilizing - Ive gathered that I need to use a stabilizer, so I'll probably go with the Solvy water dissolving type. Do I need to do anything else to make it strong enough?

Backing - Should I back it on the inside with something, to cover/protect the stitches?

Washing - When it's done and gifted, can he just wash it like normal or will he have to do something special?

Another idea, that may be completely wrong - If I drew out the design on some fabric and cut it out, could I use something like Heat n Bond to attach that to the sweater instead? Or is that way off base..

Thanks for any help/advice/suggestions you can offer, I really appreciate it! Smiley
8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Favourite BBQ Sauce? on: August 17, 2007 02:54:36 PM
I've been into cooking more than ever lately, and what I'm looking for now is a great BBQ sauce. So hit me with your favourite recipes!
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Advent Calendar For A Boy on: November 23, 2005 03:38:00 PM
I've been through all the advent calendar threads, and I already have the calendar made. What I need now is little things to put in the different days. Most of the things I've seen have been more for girls, so I'm looking for ideas for a teenage boy..

Any help would be great, thanks!
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / "Dog Days Of Summer" on: August 17, 2005 09:57:13 AM
I'm taking part in a themed exchange, and the theme is indeed 'Dog Days Of Summer'. I'm really kind of out of ideas for this one, so any suggestions would be great...

As for what type of craft.. I can do a little of nearly everything, so it doesn't much matter.

Thanks!
