Last night my mom, while wrapping presents for me (bless her), asked me to make a holiday-themed runner for a hideous coffee table. I plundered my stash to make the runner and a couple of matching throw pillows. Tops are cotton. Backings are fleece.

I recently hosted a pirate-themed birthday party for my 5-year-old son. Some of the items were store bought and/or given funny names (e.g., corn dogs became "scurvy dogs"), but others were crafted. A few of my faves:

I made a fleece throw using the Nova Scotia tartan on the top and a coordinating green on the bottom. It was a birthday gift for my mother-in-law who hails from the province.

It was a huge hit! I owe my amazing colleague and good friend Janet big time for her enthusiastic willingness to drive me out to a fabric store during my recent visit to Calgary!

 . . . And this is the cat nap/play pillow my younger son requested! I'm proud of the "collar" made of cat fabric!

This was inspired by a bag I saw in a book on sewing animal-themed items for kids.

Here is the snake my six-year-old begged me to make for him this weekend. It was all free hand, but still pretty simple.

The top is a red pattern, the bottom is solid red. Tongue is red, and the eyes are old black buttons.

My husband asked me to make a new fabric sling for the so-called Snoopy chair. After a couple of attempts, I finally got it right! I was able to make hammock and other outdoor pillows with my mistakes and extras. For the record, I didn't make the cover for the solid chair, just the stripey stuff!

I'm still pretty new to sewing (just over a year), so this is a monumental feat for me!

I finally finished it!!!! It is a Spiderman quilt kit from a mass-merchandise craft store. It's not perfect, but I'm still proud of it. Plus, my six-year-old loves it!
