Hey everyone!
This is my first post, so go easy on me!
I wanted a cute, creative idea to thank the people who wrote recommendations for me for law school. Since I was a little remiss in sending thank yous after they wrote them, I really needed a good gift since I was a few months out of date. I decided to wait and see where I got in so that it looked like the gift was planned all along and I wasn't just bad about sending thank yous.

So here it is! This was my first time decorating sugar cookies, but I work at a cookie bakery (drop cookies, not decorated and iced cookies), so I decided to take my hand to this. I used Nigella Lawson's cookie recipe from Food Network, and it was AWESOME! I used two magazines that were about the same height to rest my rolling pin on to make sure that my cookies were all of even height.

A closeup of one of the cookies:

I used gold luster dust on the cookies

Here's my homemade cookie cutter! I'm really proud of it. The only gavel cookie cutter I could find online cost a fortune, so I decided to figure out it I could make it myself. Half an hour of wandering up and down the aisles at the local home improvement store, an hour of bending the metal, and 4 hours impatiently waiting for the glue to set, and this is what I got! I'm super stoked at how it turned out.
Some of the cookies didn't get covered in icing. I got bored with doing them, but in my head I justified it in case someone didn't like icing.

In the box with LOTS of shred (hoping that these don't break in transit):

And the box all closed and tied with ribbon:

Not as good as Martha, but then again, who is?
