91  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Picture Hosting Support / Photo hosting page is the Old Craftster on: May 16, 2009 08:59:27 PM
I usually host pictures on flickr, but this time I went to put some swap photos on craftster just to simplify my life. It worked fine, no problems, but the page has the old craftster set up, you know, cork board and thumbtacks. I can see strips of the blue mesh along each side, though.

Just a heads up if you guys want to update that area of the site!
92  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Summer is for... \../ METAL \../ (music) on: May 08, 2009 12:18:32 PM
Dio wants YOU for a metal swap.

I saw that there was talk of doing another metal swap about a year ago, but I'm not sure if that ever happened. I know my friend lisaisab and I would both be up for this, and I may even try my hand at organizing if needed. Is there any interest out there?

Surely there must be some metalheads on craftster... personally, I freakin' love Dio, Judas Priest, Megadeth... what are you favorites?

93  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Accessorize my head! (Hair stuff round 2) on: March 25, 2009 05:10:24 PM
Spring is around the corner! This means I don't have to wear a warm hat ALL THE TIME anymore. I am excited about this! So I saw the Hair Stuff and Accessories swap from last year and I think we could do another one of these... a small-scale swap, like the last one. Three or so small items... if you want, a medium. I don't think I'll have time to organize, but is anyone else interested?
94  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Cirque du Soleil and Obama shirt recons! Pic ++, as usual. on: March 08, 2009 02:01:03 PM
I did these two a while ago, but I finally have access to a working camera! Yay!

OK, my grandfather got me this Obama 08 shirt back before the elections and I spiffed it out a bit with material from two other shirts. I even managed to line the bust area using one of the sleeves I cut off! Go me.
Shot of the back:

This next one I got quite a while ago at a Cirque du Soleil show in Boston (which was amazing of course), which is why I love it. But I thought it was asking for a bit of sprucing up, and I really like the fit of it now...

On one side, I put in a panel...

And on the other I took it in and added some appliqu. My only complaint here is that on this side, in order to preserve sleeve integrity, I had to add in this little triangle of fabric that looks out of place now. You can't see it most of the time, though.

Here's a close-up of the appliqu - I love this fabric!

Little shot of the back:

And finally a close-up of the collar. I put the original tag back in... just 'cause...

OK, thank you for enduring my pic-fever.
95  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / I'm having an issue with using small pictures on: January 30, 2009 09:51:21 AM
Edit: I'm a dingus
96  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Cautionary tales of mittens on: January 15, 2009 03:19:33 PM
I was looking at this tute from Vegbee, and realized I needed some hand-warmthitude while driving, and that I had some bits of fleece as well. The end result of my project is... functional... adequate... and something I will use. But, in case you want to make some, I have a few words of advice for you: Leave yourself more room in the thumb than I did. Make them a more rounded shape at the end. Use less elastic than you think you need. Or just leave the elastic out alltogether... it's a bitch to sew between the layers.
Still, not bad lookin' mittens.

Oh, and now I have a goddamn mustache. [language warning]
97  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My Little... David Bowie on: January 15, 2009 03:00:40 PM
Ahhhhhhhh, I am so excited to have finished this! It had been sitting, half-done, in my craft cabinet for months, and I was finally bored enough to finish re-hairing.

Aladdin Sane-inspired, obviously.

And yes, it does have authentic Bowie eyes! (And the little collar bone drip)

He began his new life with me as an Amberlocks in a yard sale...

He was then beheaded, behaired, and painted up good before I found a barbie (yay tag sales) with the perfect color hair to re-root with.

In-progress face paint:

And the first (unsuccessful) attempt at hair styling:

Here's my reference picture... and here's the David Bowie swap you should totally join!

98  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Headbands with a stretch on: January 14, 2009 12:22:17 PM
Inspired by mushter's post, I made myself a few headbands with some scrap fabric. These are really comfy!

They are lined with t-shirt material. Here's the back bit that gives it the perfect stretch:

Thank you for the idea, mushter!
99  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Pimp my switchplate, round 2? on: January 07, 2009 07:28:35 AM
Or is it round 3? Oh well, here's a gallery from days gone by...
I'm not sure if I can do it right away, but I just thought I'd stir up interest. Whadyathink?
100  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Red vs. Blue... Sun... (2 freezer paper shirts) on: January 05, 2009 11:23:40 PM
This first shirt is was a gift for my step-brother - red vs. blue is one of his favorite things. The flash did funny things to it, but the coating is pretty even... it did bleed around the white lettering, but it's OK I think.

I painted on the needlers after in a pinkish-purple, but I'm not sure that was a good idea... they could easily be left off I think.

"Quick! Is Apples stuck in a tree?"

OK, second shirt - for me! Merry Christmas me.

At first the cutting was getting to me...

But once it was done, I was a happy camper. I love Firefly.

I tried to give that one a sort-of old shirt look, like it had been worn in a bunch.
The stencil I found here - thank you Jim! He's got the other version too, as well as some other pretty sweet images that I may use later. Cheesy
