1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Jealous Hubby swap? on: June 09, 2010 03:36:04 PM
Noooo... I'm not talking about the kind of jealous husband that beats up any guy that looks at you. I'm talking about the kind of jealous husband that sees all of the awesome swap packages you get and is upset that there is nothing in it for him Smiley

I know that my husband has been super jealous lately of all the fantastic things I have been getting. So, I was thinking about doing a swap where we would all make swap packages strictly for the other person in our life.

Opinions? Interest?
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / pampered mommy swap, anybody?? on: November 07, 2008 09:04:23 PM
i figured if there's any time for a mom to take a break for herself, its now!

as any mommy knows, the holidays are SUPER stressful!!! the decorating, the cookie and candy making, the shopping in horrendous crowds, dealing with the in-laws and extended family... most of the time, we forget about ourselves and don't take even a minute to slow down.

so, the idea behind this swap would be for all of us stressed out mommies to take some time out of our holiday season to craft another mommy some items to make her feel special. this could be anything from a nice cozy pair of slippers, some homemade bath products, a silky sleep mask, a nice big mug and teas or cocoas to fill it with, and don't forget chocolate!! i know i have a breakdown if i go too long without chocolate!

let me know what you think. i'm open to any suggestions on amount/size of items and how long the crafting period should be because i know that some people have less time to craft than others. i hope some of you find this idea as appealing as i do, because i know i sure could use a little pick-me-up just for me at this time of the year!! Wink
3  COOKING / Dessert / Diego Birthday Rainbow Cupcakes! on: June 06, 2008 10:22:05 PM
i posted my practice run at rainbow cupcakes a while back. so, here is the real deal... my Go Diego, Go rainbow cupcakes for my son's fifth birthday.

i used the premade Diego face icing decorations by Wilton. and i used Diego fruit snacks and animal crackers. for the "grass", i used coconut flakes that i colored green and some canned frosting that i colored green.

the colors of the cake (from the bottom up) are yellow, blue, orange, and green. its a vanilla cake. so, the only other flavors than vanilla are the fruit flavors of the fruit snacks and the coconut on top.

and here is the birthday boy. we let him pick the place he wanted to eat and he said the mexican place. he only wanted to eat there because he knew they would sing and he would get to wear the hat. he didn't even eat mexican food. he had his usual diet of chicken nuggets. lol

that's my last attempt at rainbow cupcakes for a while. they are pretty and fun to look at, and darn tasty... but so time consuming. we are having a family party tomorrow, so hopefully everyone will enjoy them.

thanks for looking!
4  COOKING / Dessert / hopping on the rainbow wagon (pic heavy, like me from eating cupcakes) on: May 22, 2008 12:13:22 PM
so, my son's birthday is coming up. and rather than spend a ton of money on store-made cake, i decided to take a stab at rainbow cupcakes. but, i didn't want to wait til then to do it because i didn't know if i had enough mojo in the baking skills to pull it off.

these are my dry run. they turned out pretty well. the pics make the colors look a little odd, but in person they are neon. i just used the colors straight from the neon food colors box. i didn't feel like going all out and mixing every color in the rainbow. i put canned white frosting on there (because i'm lazy today, and this is just an experiment.) its supposed to look like white clouds, and there's sparkle sugar on top to make it even more happy. ironically, its raining today. and i made way too many of these... soooo... the neighbors will all be getting a rainy day treat. lol

the colors are neon purple, green, hot pink, and blue.

kinda looks like clouds, huh? lol

the coolest part, i think, was the awesome tye-dyed looking cupcake paper. normally i'm sad when the cupcake was gone, but at least with these the paper is happy-looking too. lol

they tasted really good. i don't know why, but i for some reason thought they wouldn't taste right with the color in them. this is not how i will do it for my son's b-day. this is a little too girly. he loves go diego, go. so, am going to color the cupcakes yellow, blue, and orange. and the icing will be one of those colors with diego icing decorations and matching sprinkles.

so, thanks for looking, and have a great afternoon/evening! Smiley
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / woodburned bird house on: May 21, 2008 02:21:53 PM
i'm posting this in the interior home decorations because i don't plan on putting it outside. i'm really pleased with how it turned out. i woodburned all the pictures, and the borders, and roof design. then i painted all the colored parts with cheap kid's watercolor paints. the roof ant borders got "stained" with brown water color paint over the woodburned designs. i was gonna give it away, but i think i will keep it. lol

the front

the side, both are the same design.

and the back.

sorry for the blurry shots. my 5 year old got my camera and got something on the lens. i've been to lazy to clean it as well as i should. the pictures really don't do the designs or the colors justice, but that's a rough idea of what it looks like. thanks for looking! Smiley
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / first woodburning project. on: May 13, 2008 12:29:09 PM
i got one of those woodburning/soldering iron things for mother's day, so i decided to try it out yesterday by making my kids name plates. i think they turned out alright, they could be better. but, hey! it was my first time. i i outlined everything with the woodburning tool and filled in everything but the letters with paint. it was fun. i can't wait to try to solder something together.

thanks for looking Smiley
