1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Shell Flower Necklace and stuff on: June 08, 2009 05:07:00 AM
I made this necklace for a wedding I am going to this weekend.

The findings are silver sterling, flower pendant is made from a shell, and the beads are white and rose quartz. It is one necklace, I stranded the beads on thread and wove the threads into the chain. It was very easy and fast, it took me about 2 hours.

I also made a bracelet with the beads. I was going to make earrings out of two other shell flowers but I found my pearls went with it very well so I decided against it.

This is my first jewelry project, C&C wanted and welcomed!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Natural fiber yarns? on: March 30, 2009 10:29:58 AM
What is the best natural fiber yarn for a large knitting project (i.e. blanket)?

I'm looking for something widely available/relatively inexpensive. Acrylic yarn makes me  Cry]

I've used peaches and cream, I'm wondering if there's something better.

TIA
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Windowpane blanket on: March 17, 2009 07:10:19 AM
My very first knitting project! I made this for my soon-to-be nephew, coming this April.

(I still need to weave in the ends.)

Here is my baby, Evelynn, modeling the blanket for you.

I did not use a pattern. It's 25 garter stitch squares (cast on 20, 38 rows). I crocheted an edging on each one (sc in each st, 18 across each side, ch 3 for corners), then I sl st'ed the squares together instead of sewing them to give it some texture. I did this on both sides so the front and back are the same. Then, I just crocheted an edge around the whole deal (just sc) to finish it off. I call it the windowpane blanket. If anyone wants an actual pattern, let me know and I'll make one up.  Cheesy

I went from not knowing how to knit to completed project in 3 weeks. I am impressed with myself! *gloat*

One more picture for you:

Comments and criticism welcomed.  Smiley
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / "Vintage" Grapes- First Embroidery on: May 13, 2008 11:10:59 PM
Ok, so this is my first attempt at embroidery. It was super fun!

I did it free hand, based on my own drawing. I used crayons to give it a cute vintage look, and framed it in a hoop. I was pleased with the outcome!

Sorry for the lack of picture quality (all I have is a cell phone camera).

Here's an attempted close up of the stitching.

I used a split stitch on the grapes, stem stitch for the leaves, satin for the stem, and back stitch for other details. The border is an interlaced running stitch. My stem stitch really needs some work, but overall I think it came nice.

Let me know what you think!  Grin
