1  The Maxi Post of Maxi Dresses! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: November 24, 2009 06:27:59 AM
Lately I've been on a bit of a maxi dress kick, they are just so quick and easy to make and wear! Just throw one on and look instantly glamorous Smiley

There are four different dresses here, 2 different patterns... but they don't vary too much!

All patterns and designs are my own Smiley

Number 1-  I call her Alexandra W - Royal Blue

T-shirt style maxi dress with deep v neck, can be worn on one shoulder or both - Made out of a beautiful royal blue knit which im sorry to use the last of Sad but we'll worth it in this dress i think!

Number 2 - Alexandra W - Black and Gold Striped

Same pattern as the Blue one.

Number 3 - Lydia H - Black and Gray, with shredded details

Twisted black and gray straps with gray shredded detail on the back - black and gray jearsy

Number 4 - Lydia H - Black and Gold Striped

My favorite I think, black and gold Jersey with two layer skirt super skinny straps which took hours! but are well worth the effort and blister on my finger.

The back straps form a sort of keyhole thingy.

Which ones your favorite!?!?!

As allways c & c is adored and im more than happy to answer any questions!

2  In a bag full of buttons bats will swarm in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: November 16, 2009 02:01:55 AM
In a bag full of buttons
I'm that tiny unique one.....

Odd in size and color
Holes as round as the sun.....

I may not shine or sparkle
Or even catch most eyes.....

I may not match one's attire
Nor compare to all those flies.....

Though, I may not have a matching set
I've learned to stand alone.....

When it comes to wearing the britches
I surely can hold my own.

I found this wonderful poem about buttons written by 4 SUGAR BEAR - here - http://poetrywithmeaning.com/authors/4%20SUGAR%20BEAR/6417 and thought it was fitting Smiley

This is quite a simple little summer dress, it just needed something to spice it up. I decided to utilize my rather large button collection and showcase my favorite buttons on the dress. This is it so far. When ever i find a new button I love I'll attach it Smiley hopefully it will get quite over the top!

Close up of the buttons

And here is a mini, bat wing style dress i whipped up before an cocktail event one day, very rushed job... so rushed in fact i forgot to use my zig zag stitch for the middle and its an awful squeeze to get into... but one its on it fits beautifully

Thanks for looking!

As always c & c is adored Smiley

3  hey there little miss ridding hood... in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: November 15, 2009 01:04:26 PM
*Note* sorry about the massive text... i got a bit carried away with my story, feel free to skip it and move straight to the pics! *Note*

Once upon a time there lived a little girl. This little girl loved hoods... and hoodies but alas her search for totally awesome hoodies went unresolved. Until one rainy afternoon with nothing to do she decided to go through her patterns. (Most of the patterns happened to belong to her mother, but when the little girl started sewing she commandeered them... as many little girls do with many of their mum's things. )

Searching through for the hundredth time and finding nothing appealing, the little girl was about to give up and see what her "lazy craftyness" could come up with... when right at the bottom almost hidden she found a pattern that just might do....

It was a 70's style floor length, coat dress with a hood... hmmmm... the little girls brain started working!

"I've wanted a full length hoodie FOREVER!" she said to herself
"I know! i'll use this pattern as a base!"

Suddenly the little girls face dropped! Sad "OH NO! i don't think i have any fabric! whatever shall i do!?!" - after procrastinating for more time then the little girl is prepared to admit she accepted defeat for now and went off in search of something else crafty to do!

Not ten minutes later the little girl found herself noising around in her mothers linen closet and what she found next was as good as treasure!!!

2+ meters of black fleece and 1 meter of awesome fake fur... the little girl cunningly put the fur aside and begins her task of creating the BEST hoodie ever!

The size of the little girls hood tends to scare most people... she did make it rather large!

The little girl also had a enough red satin to line the hood!

Stay tuned for what happened with the super cool fur!

Thanks for looking! as always c & c is adored!

4  Bored on Reception - Blutack Godzilla and Miniture Ravaged town! in Completed Projects by sweet_as_lulu on: May 04, 2009 06:44:28 AM
Ages ago... when i used to work, sometimes if the circumstances permitted i was made to man the reception desk... unfortunately this was a task my brain could not handle... the answering of phones with the same spiel every time and talking to annoying visitors... more often than not, my brain required extra stimulation! most of the time was spent on craftser (my savior) or some mind numbingly stupid website... tmz or gofugyourself... however one day, lusting for my sewing machine i decided to creat a world i could escape too...

Materials on hand were....

Bluetack
Post-its
Mannila Files
A piece of wood, the size of a book (no idea what that was doing on reception!?!?!)
Sticky Tape and
Pens

The Result....

A BLUE-TACK GODZILLIA!!!! RRRRAAAAWWWWWWWWW

and happy town... maybe not so happy now  Undecided

Close ups of my burning buildings and people jumping to their safety?!?! Deaths!?!?!

Little Blue-tack men running (and falling) away from the Godzilla

and some random shots!

The whole thing took roughly two working days... while answering calls and dealing with other minor reception stuff

What do you guys think? time well spent!?!?!

6  Sabrina Inspired Silver Dressy Dress (pic heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: March 26, 2009 02:12:15 AM
Hey Guys!

Inspired by sofiasweetheart's Sabrina dress... http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=297320.0 ....

I bought the pattern off Burda Style and went to work! Modified slightly with no straps and a shorter skirt.

I didn't have an invisible zip... let alone one that matched the fabric... so i rummaged round and found id bought two black jacket zippers (originally bought for one of those dresses with the zip all the way through the front... which i hope to get around to making sooooooon!) I'm really quite happy with the results and like the contrast of the black zip.

Just curios as to what you guys think? and do you think i should add straps? I've had a lot of people divided on it... some recon i should, other like it better strapless!

The fabric

Sorry Guys... here's some front shots

What do you guys think? all c & c welcome!!!

7  Tule makes everything better! (Dress from wool suiting fabric) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: December 29, 2008 02:01:24 AM
I love tule! there i said it... i firmly believe that everything improves with tule  Cheesy

I started this dress a few months ago, as soon as I saw the fabric I fell instantly head over heels in lust with it and knew I had to make a dress... but as I began I started to loose heart... it just wasn't working and I couldn't put my finger on why. However when a friend offered to take professional photos of all my dresses I HAD to finish this one and after adding some tule... ok a lot of tule and changing the sleeves I was SOOOO glad I did!

Its a thick wool suiting fabric I think... not too sure, it was on clearance and they had tones of it... im still at a loss as to why no one was buying it... maybe cause it frays ridiculously, ah well after some well needed time with my overlocker no more fraying! YAY!

unfortunately i didn't do too well with the darts, lining up all the stripes was tricky... but i think its hardly noticeable Smiley

ok enough blabbing and on with the pics!

front view

and my favorite view the back!

All comments and criticism welcome as well as any hints and just general feedback! its always great to hear what you fellow craftsters think Smiley

thanks for looking! xoxo

8  For the glittered, feathers that play in the night in Costumes: Completed Projects by sweet_as_lulu on: July 31, 2008 08:42:24 PM
Hello All,
So, Ive finally finished my Marie Antoinette dress, Ive wanted one forever! And i thought the Masquerade ball i was invited to was a perfect excuse to make one Cheesy
Everything was done without a pattern, working it out as i went along Smiley Im soooo proud of the fact I managed to teach myself how to Blind Hem!!! Without a Blind stitch foot either! What would we do without the internet! Ok so on to the pictures! And be warned there are a few...

The main skirt is an beautiful Apple Green Dupioni Silk, so nice to work with Then there is a purple and black over skirt, with a purple and black corset (the corset was the only thing i didnt make, i did actually make one to go with the dress, but id completely forgot i ordered this one and it came in the mail two days before the ball and it was the perfect colors! I didnt even get it for the ball!)
Then the sleeves are just a pair of stockings made skinnier to fit my arms Smiley and with the purple ribbon threaded though, sorry i dont have more detailed pictures.. if you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask Smiley

So... well begin with a little arty one Tongue

The back

Us in the hummer limo, and me with my fan i made to match!

Keeping in character with my red wine and mask, also made for the event

The side Smiley

My crazy/beautiful/cant get enough of them eyelashes! They had feathers and some apple green lashes, but you cant really see them that well

Full body Shot

My friend went to allot of trouble hiring two costumes and everything, if we had enough time i would have made his costume too.

And last but not least a group shot

Please let me know what you think!! eagerly awaiting
Have a lovely craft filled day all!

9  Marie Antoinette Gown, Work in progress (image fat) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: June 27, 2008 01:07:14 AM
So... this is the beginnings of my Marie Antoinette gown. Ive wanted one ever since i was a little girl and seeing as this year my work ball was a masquade theme, i thought what better excuse to try it out, originally going to use a simplicity pattern. but in the end i decided to wing it. Smiley

The corset was from a fantastic tute on here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=122286.0

I only just got back into sewing about three months ago but im soooo proud at what I've done so far. I started this gown about two weeks ago. and the skirt on Monday!

13 meters of tule!!! and my under bust corset

With Green over skirt, yet to drape more black silk over

Close up of lovely draping

cat helping Smiley

Close up of the corset, white lace, gold grommets

Close up of my phat ribbon, really like using wide ribbon just takes awhile to put on Smiley

Nothing was done with a pattern, the corset was from the above tute, skirt was just strips of 45 inch wide tule gathered onto elastic then the green Duponi silk was cut into giant triangles and sewn together... I feel really naughty for not using a ruler or measuring but it turned out ok and all pieces are even so im happy  Grin

Still heaps to do but its getting there, I have the black silk to layer over the green, a giant purple bow to do for the bustle and the rest of the top... oh and the masks! they will be Peacock feather... Whoa thats quite a bit!

More pics will be posted later, just too excited to leave. Please let me know what you think

10  Batwing Mini Dess - Thannks to Shleybee! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by sweet_as_lulu on: May 28, 2008 12:02:53 AM
Hi All,

Wow this is scary, ok this is my first post on here and not sure if Ive posted this in the right spot but here goes

Ive been watching from the shadows for awhile and I love it, Craftster is the perfect place to waste a day and be inspired. I've only just started sewing again and this is the fist item Ive ever made without a pattern. Many thanks to Shleybee for her fantastic tute  Smiley found here... http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=178828.0

And this is my version Smiley I made for a friends 21st, ironically half an hour before the party I decided I wanted to ware black, hence a black one was born Smiley Done using a light blue stretch jersey... love that stuff

Please excuse my stupid poses and funny faces, all the photos were turning out ugly so I thought what the heck, make a fool of myself while im at it Smiley

side/action shot!

Love how I can pull it down and have it at a nice modest length for work, then sass it up for night Smiley

Sorry for the novel of a post, i hope you like, please comment with feedback, good or bad Smiley and thanks again to Shleybee for the tute!!!
