1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Bottlecap Charms on: August 15, 2010 12:36:38 PM
I did finally find a solution for the deer charm! I got round bails and glued them to the backs of the charms that wouldn't fit in my vise. It obscures the design on the bottlecap, but works perfect for a necklace!

I had to seal all of mine with clear packing tape or contact paper to prevent the colors from bleeding. Perhaps you will have luck with another method, but I had smeared pictures otherwise.

If you want to use pics from the internet, try inserting them into a Word document and resizing them.

3  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Re: Love the lovebirds :) on: February 03, 2010 08:24:45 PM
This is really beautiful. I need to learn some more stitches! All I ever want to do is split stitch.  Smiley

These are wonderful! I love them!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Sequin Trees on: December 05, 2009 10:11:47 AM
I put these out in the living room this year with lots of other little trees. I've been looking at them and thinking I need to make several more. I think a red one would be cool and another in emerald green...or black and gold together.

Another thing I tried was wrapping ribbon around the foam so it would peek through in certain places.

You do get a bit of an indentation in your thumb after putting these together!  Smiley

I fill them almost to the top. Sometimes after they dry I will fill in another layer.

I just clamp the bottlecap in a vise and use a hammer and nail to make a hole for a jump ring.

Thanks! They were hard to part with, but my partner made me some awesome stuff in return, like an amigurumi Frankenstein and a Godzilla hat!

8  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Vegetarian cooking disasters! on: September 16, 2009 03:20:15 PM
I once tried a recipe for some kind of stew...it involved chickpeas, pumpkin and peanut butter. The less said about it the better!

Also, my first attempt at seitan was hilarious. No matter how hard I pulled,  I could not stretch it into the cutlets the recipe described. I had seitan piccata with little chunks instead.

9  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Smart Dogs Vegetarian Hot Dogs on: September 16, 2009 03:16:46 PM
I just bought Tofu Pups for the first time Labor Day weekend. I thought they were mushy inside, even after being grilled to blackness by my brother in law.

The store was sold out of all the other kinds. I couldn't find Smart Dogs or Smart Franks...I love Smart Bacon, so I looked hard! I usually get the Morningstar brand, though I think there's a bit of milk in there. I tried the Quorn brand also, the texture was perfect, but I always felt ill after I ate them.

I'm going to try broiling them, wrapping them in a slice of Tofutti and then pouring Hormel vegetarian chili over the top. The cheese and chili combo was awesome with fries last weekend.

I'm going to make Persian sweet and sour eggplant tonight...probably with some rice or pasta on the side.
