1  Re: The Long Awaited Poppet-Along in Craftalongs by chadam_lives on: October 22, 2009 11:27:33 AM
Here's my latest gal! She used to be a denimy/fake suede skirt, and is all stitched together with dental floss (which unfortunately shows on all the hems T_T)
I'm pretty pleased with her, she has a nose! Cheesy I still have to work on my stuffing and sewing though, lol. She's a little bit sideways as you can see. I messed her neck up so badly I had to sew ribbon around it to hide her scars, and her feet were so deformed I had to make her socks! xD

But here she is. Meet Thalia, the latest in the line of my pretentiously named poppets! Cheesy

The extra space for the nose is a great idea! I will try it the next poppet I make (which will hopefully be soon!)

In the meanwhile, here's Ben, the very first poppet I made, who is a little too squishy, but sooo cuddly! I replaced his wool hair with fur of an old teddybear and he came out so much cuter.

He's made out of the same sweatshirt material as cassandra and all his clothes are scraps of my old clothes Tongue. I'm quite proud of his jeans, I made 'em out of the leg of an old pair of mine, by drawing around him and sewing them up.

I don't feel too upset about it today, I got better fabric from the thrift shop across the street from me, and I'm taking a bit of a breather (well,  half a day Tongue) from poppet-ing, so I can come at my next try with a fresh eye. I have to make Cassandra (second test poppet I made) a new dress as well, so that's more distraction lol.
What annoyed me most about my trashed poppet was that it was the best sewing I'd done so far, and it still didn't look right.  Roll Eyes
Thanks for listening, heh.

Just thought I'd add a pic or two  of Cassandra, just to see if anyone had any thoughts on how I can improve, I know her nose isn't that prominent, I have to figure a way of stuffing the nose, without using clay (mainly because I can't find any ;_;) She does have cute little cow ears though Cheesy

4  Valentine The Fuzzy Flamingo in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by chadam_lives on: September 27, 2009 01:43:50 PM
Made this guy for my sister who asked (or challenged?) me to make a flamingo for her yesterday.

Am quite pleased, as I just started and went on what felt right. He's not perfect by any means, but hey, who is? Cheesy

He's made of three and a half socks, and has hearts on his wings, which gave him his name (along with the fact sister is obsessed with Dick Valentine of Electric Six)

As you can see my sis loves him, and he loves her haha.

any thoughts I'd love some feedback as I'd love to make more and more challenging things. I have to make a axolotl for my bro for christmas, so that might be next on my list!

5  Newest Doll, a creepy pair of twins and a cow in a woolly hat. (fixed images) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by chadam_lives on: September 25, 2009 09:55:09 AM
More Dolls Cheesy I've made two in the last day, and I really like the latest one.

Snowbelle! She's a sort of medieval princessy/snow white doll, made that way completely by accident.

And Jack and Jill, two dolls I made earlier in the summer for myself to satisfy my need of creepy voodoo-esque dollies.

Jill:

Jack:

And the two of them:

And the sock cow Elizabeth Michelle Baguette Moo (who is also known as Bessie Moo)

Hope you like 'em Cheesy

6  Sock Dolls (First Topic of Hopefully Many!) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by chadam_lives on: September 23, 2009 05:28:00 PM
First time poster, long time lurker. I've been making plushies now for nearly two months, before that I dabbled in reconning tshirts and other things, but I'm obsessed with making plushies, and plan on making lots more! Cheesy

Meet Jeph and Dan (named after, but not actually dolls of  the bassist and drummer of the band The Used) Links because I'm a newb and can't post pics!  Grin

Close up of Dan:

Close up of Jeph:

Both made with socks, stolen wool (from my sister's stash Tongue) and other bits and bobs of fabric from my stash. All handsewn by moi.

I'd love some feedback, I know they're rough, but that's how I like 'em. Cheesy
I'll try and post the other plushies I've made when I get photos of them later.
