1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Red polka dot dress on: October 09, 2008 04:41:28 AM
This is my second recon... it went much better than my first one, but it was much simpler.

Here's how it started:

(This is actually the ebay seller's picture - I forgot to take one)

I cut off that strange frill bit at the bottom and hemmed it. I added a ruffly lace at the bottom (pre-made, I didn't make the ruffles myself, that would have gone horribly wrong!)

To make the bottom of the fabric heavier, so the dress wold be, er, swooshier (what? I'm a beginner!), I sewed some beads into the back of the bottom edge.

And here's the complete dress:

Using the fabric I cut off from the bottom, and some curtain rings to attach the handles (hah), I also made a bag. It's just lined with some white cotton and closes with velcro, and has a couple of little buttons at the base of each handle.

Here's a shot of the finished thing in action Smiley

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My first recon on: September 20, 2008 12:07:13 PM
Sorry, I'm useless, and I forgot to take photos before I started the recon. The top I was using was just a brown long-sleeved t-shirt with a design on the front. I had it when I was younger, but grew out of it. I just found it again and I thought it was a beautiful image.

I cut off the sleeves, and cut a square neckline (it was really high-necked before). I put a grey marl strip around the bottom, and added a hood in the same fabric, and lined with a tartan-ish brown fabric.

The text says "la belle femme" (You can't see it very well on the godawful indoor-light photos).

Honestly, I don't really like it Sad I didn't really know what I was doing with the hood, so as you can tell, it turned out too long - but it's too small from front to back really, so it doesn't look great when I wear it up either. Also, the sewing is messy in some places (I'm new to sewing as well as reconstructing, I've only made two garments before). Ah well, it all goes down to experience.
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Burdastyle Sadie tank top with skirt on: August 25, 2008 09:55:42 AM
I've had a productive summer - I took up both sewing and knitting! Cheesy This is the second thing I've sewed. I'm still following patterns pretty closely at this point to pick up some techniques and everything Smiley It's the Sadie pattern free from burdastyle.

I was going to add a hood, but didn't have enough spare fabric, so I made that hairband with long ends instead. Smiley
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My first project - really nothing special, but I'm proud of myself :) on: July 31, 2008 11:02:10 AM
I made this yesterday. Had some trouble with my sewing machine, I don't understand it inside out yet, d'oh Cheesy This isn't anything compared to all your wonderful projects, but I hope I can post it here anyway. This is the Sadie tank top from Burda Style. I got the fabric off eBay. It's very light and fluid and wouldn't hold still while I sewed it, so I handsewed everything loosely before I machine sewed it. Is there an easier way to do this? Huh (Please excuse my newbieness!)

Picture:

Next, I might make this pattern again, but the version with the skirt and in a different fabric. Smiley
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Macro challenge: Xalamar the Third and Mighty! on: May 06, 2008 10:23:17 AM
What do you know, this is my first post! I just got done taking and editing some macro photos of my stick insect, Xalamar the Third and Mighty, and right after, I came on here and saw this challenge. Worryingly, I couldn't find any rules here, though I'm sure there must be some, so I'm sorry if my entering a challenge this early on breaks some sort of restrictions. Smiley Anyway, here's my entry (linked offsite, since I think I can't post images unless I have more than a certain number of posts or something?)

It was taken with my digital camera, not an SLR, so I don't have any fancy macro lenses or anything... still, I think my trusty camera got in pretty close! I turned up the saturation and contrast a little on Paint Shop Pro Smiley
