61  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Re: What is a poppet? on: May 07, 2008 07:44:17 PM
Oh, I see!  They are indeed cute!  Cheesy  I have a lot of other projects going on right now, but maybe sometime I'll make one!

I haven't made very many patterns, but of the ones I've made, the finished product is always a bit smaller than what I had imagined, even when I make seam allowances on my patterns.  I guess I should just make them even a bit larger when I draw them!  Making clothes can be tricky too.  I find it helps to use paper towels at first for clothing patterns, because they drape and fold more easily than paper.  Once you are happy with it you can trace the paper towel pattern onto a more permanent paper or other material!

Hope that helped a little  Smiley

I am such a newbie!

This is probably a really dumb question, but what exactly is a poppet?  I know it's a doll, but is it a specific sort of doll?

Thanks!

What a great idea!  I'm always looking for an excuse to make a book, so I may just do something like that for the little ones in my life.  Great job!

Those are amazing!  I am by no means an expert bookmaker but I made a tiny book once just for fun.  It was probably three times the size of yours though, and it was hard!  Good job!
66  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / New here! on: April 30, 2008 09:44:36 PM
Hi everyone!

Just a little about myself:  I'm 21, about to graduate and get married, and I LOVE crafts.  Specifically, I love paper crafts and sewing.  Right now I'm most interested in making and decorating books and making cloth dolls and doll clothes.  I am not an expert at either, but it's a nice hobby that I thoroughly enjoy and hope to improve with time.

Looking forward to participating on Craftster!
