Adorable!!!  I wonder if I could do something similar to one of the plaid shirts from the 90's I have laying around.

Great job!

Wonderful job!  I love your coat!!  I also have long arms (dh calls them orangutan arms).  I've been very intimidated about trying to sew a coat.  You are inspiring me to maybe just do it!

Great job!  It looks amazing!  I love pea coats, and houndstooth.  In other words, I love your coat!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: the pattern layout is showing the fabric slightly above the fold, cut it or X? on: August 11, 2008 12:28:39 PM
I would double check & make sure the curve is really supposed to be on a fold.  I've never seen a pattern that had you place a curved line on a fold.  PP is right about the bracket & arrows.  Also, the line that goes on a fold is usually thinner, less 'bolded' than a cutting line.

It would also help if you could tell us what type of garment you are trying to cut out?

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Adding a cap sleeve to a sleeveless dress/top? on: August 11, 2008 12:25:14 PM
I have this dress that is about 9 years old that I can fit into again (yay) and I want to update it.  It is ankle length, so I'm going to shorten it to knee length.  It is also sleeveless, and I'd like to add some sleeves with the fabric I cut off when I shorten the dress.  The fabric is woven synthetic, not stretchy at all, and the bodice is partially lined.  I've sewn sleeves before, but always following a pattern, not winging it myself.  If figure I can alter the partial lining so it is only facing around the neckline to allow for the placement of a sleeve, but I'm not really sure how to go about making the sleeve.

Any tips?  Should I see if there is a pattern in my stash that has a sleeve that will work?

Thanks!
