Thanks for the comments...It was a lot of cutting and folding triangles after triangles...
My sis thinks the hat is pretty cool; she said I should think about doing a complete Miao outfit in duck tape and the necklace to go along with the hat...lol, I told her I will think about it...

Hi. I love the miao hats and thought with the shiny tape duck it would be perfect for it. I have been teaching myself how to do Japanese Kanzashi fabric flowers and thought duck tape would be a good medium for it...  I here the link to how the original hats should look like...

Here is my version...I didn't submitted on time....Sad oh well...Maybe next time...

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Fun-House People Series on: October 29, 2008 01:21:21 PM
Yeah, I think the third one is most interesting of all them.  It has really dynamic composition, the eyes are what I keep looking at and and it draws me the big eerie face.   It kinda makes me think about a story why the face is there.  Ok, I kinda being weird here, to me the drawing is trying to tell a story like the clown is dreaming and we enter the dream. The composition of the others lack the same dynamic.
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Well, photos with Photshop man. --lots of pics on: October 29, 2008 01:00:54 PM
Just wanted to share some pics I been working on.  I have been working in Photoshop with them;  I also need to get some opinions on which ones to put into a portfolio for my work.  Well, I can ask my sis but she not very objective about it.

The original picture was taken of my sis a long time ago.

Here the photoshop verisons:

Which one do you prefer most?

This one was taken this summer of my friend at an anime con.

Here the photo shop versions.

Hmmm...What do you think?
5  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: opinions please!!! img heavy!!! on: October 27, 2008 02:17:48 AM
I helped out at my sis first craft fair and we didn't get much business either.  I think your first time at a craft is not always successful.  You may need to do some research about the fairs you are going to.  Here some questions to think about: is it well known, how is it promoted, what is it for; this helps because it give answer to who is your market (the people who would to buy your products), and will help with your pricing.  Also think about the season, people who go to craft fairs are looking for seasonal items too.  Our first time was at a local craft fair that was fund riser for a local high school band.  My sis did not do her homework, she was so excited that she was going to a craft fair to sell some her items.  The fee was not bad but a lot of the people who came were people who were friends of the kids and it was not promoted well.  It was in early November so the crowd was looking for decorations for Christmas and Thanksgiving, which a lot of our products were not seasonal.

Now my sis goes to anime cons, and she makes jewelry that would sell there.  Her prices are low from $5 to $50, lots of the teens buy the $5-$15  items while the chaperons (usually the mothers, grandma, aunties, and older siblings who come with the teens) buys the $30-40 items.

Your purses are cute, I like the pink one.  Did you should make more, people have different taste so you should make lots with different prints.  Good luck!
6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Photos for my niece's fashion show-lots of pic on: October 27, 2008 01:27:05 AM
I just started getting back into photography.  Here some photos I took of my niece fashion show.  I blurred the background in Photoshop so that it would not distract from the clothing as much.  How effective do you think it is?  Be warned the makeup is very (retro) 80's  Wink, I did all the hairstyles of the girls so this was a lot of work;  I think I spent over 2 hours doing hair, good thing my sis did makeup.

The clothing is little to sexy for me and sorry about the white stools, it was all I had to work with.

These are some nice close shots I took of them

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Recycle link bracelets into necklaces--lots of pics on: October 24, 2008 09:23:54 AM
Yes, the Miao live in Yunnan but they live in other provinces, too.  My family is Hmong, we are the ones that moved to Laos generations back, now to US.  My sis is very interested in Hmong history and it's connections to China.  We started to have a collection of both Miao and Hmong traditional costumes in our home.
8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Gothic cuffs--lots of pics on: October 20, 2008 10:47:30 AM
I use Velcro for the closures; it easy for for people to put on and take off.  I made sample pairs with ribbon ties and buttons.  Velcro was by far the favorite for one person to put on.  Hmmm, well I was not planning to do a mass production of the cuffs.  Thanks for the advice about the the ribbons; I will check them out when I go to the local fabric store.
9  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: How to transport my jewelry on: October 20, 2008 10:20:29 AM
It depends on what you need and how you want your items to be display.  One of my sis uses an old fish tackle box she got from a garage sale for her earrings and necklaces. It similar to some thing like this http://www.gotyatackle.com/store/images/1120.jpg, but hers is twice as big. It easy to use, has lots of compartment for organization, and good transportation for small misc. items.  She will display her sample items on flat jewelry displays or on the table and leave the rest in the tackle box.   While my other sis sells rings and has a small flat glass top case that easy to transport and display all her rings.  It looks similar to this http://cgi.ebay.com/Red-72-Ring-Glass-Top-Jewelry-Display-Case-Box-BONUS_W0QQitemZ160293357785QQihZ006QQcategoryZ67703QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I think they ordered a lot their display items from Ebay.
