1  Re: Tea Towel Tour Gallery - As seen on TTTV in The Swap Gallery by j_q_adams on: December 04, 2009 07:24:03 PM
I got my completed towel back!  Here it is in all its glory:

And here's a rundown of everyone's stitching.  First up, my initial design:

Here's an adorable Nemo fish from IamSusie:

ritapizza stitched a beautiful mermaid:

This coral made entirely of french knots by Kitten Wrangler feels amazing!:

Another awesome sea plant courtesy of PearliePie:

And SarahJ2001's contribution is this cool seahorse:

Thanks to all of the Sassy Stitchers for making my first tour so enjoyable!

JQADAMS- LOVE your badbird birds, you have such a great aesthetic for choosing your designs, I've really enjoyed everything you've done in this tour! Plus, your stitching is DIVINE!

Awwww, thanks so much, greenlightgo!  That was such a nice thing to say.  This is my first embroidery swap, so that's really great to hear.

I just finished my final piece for the tour, and it's for SarahJ2001.  Her towel doesn't have theme, but she did refer to her "100 things" post in which she referenced that her dream car is a green Jeep (and that she has one!)  So I thought she might like a green Jeep commemorated on her towel:

I have a picture of Sarah's full towel, but I believe the etiquette is to not show it until she receives it ... ??  So I'll refrain.

SO sad that the tour is over for me, but I had a blast!  I'll keep watching the gallery until the final design is posted!

I recently sent off IamSusie's towel ... I wan't planning on stitching this image, but once I saw the towel in person I felt it was a great fit.

And yes, it is another Andrea Zuill pattern!  What can I say? -- I love her stuff!

Here's a picture of Susie's entire towel so far:

j_q_adams -- Your hummingbird and lotus flowers are so pretty. Have to admit though, I'm curious what you would have done if you'd gone the Soviet propaganda route.

GatsbyGirl ... sorry it's taken me a while to respond!  I was finally able to upload this pic.  Here's what I was planning on stitching onto KW's towel, IF it went that route!

Here's my addition to Kitten Wrangler's towel.  KW's interests were as varied as Soviet propaganda and Indonesian designs, among others.  I had already picked a pretty bad-a** Soviet design to stitch, but I knew I had to go in another direction once I saw what had already been added to the towel.

I'm not too sure that hummingbirds and lotus flowers even have anything to do with Indonesia, but I think the design and the colors flowed nicely with what was already there.

And here's the whole towel so far:

I finished up ritapizza's apron last night, and here are some pictures:

I based it on some prints from one of my favorite Etsy shops, beethings (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5456672).  I wrote to the artist and she gave me permission to stitch her designs!

10.25:
I was finally able to start working on blocks this weekend!

First up: a block for gingerquilts.  This block is called Frolic Variation and I found it on the McCall's Quilting website:
http://www.mccallsquilting.com/patterns/details.html?idx=8058

Next is a block for ritapizza.  This is the Double Pinwheel block, also from McCall's Quilting:
http://www.mccallsquilting.com/patterns/details.html?idx=8017

Finally, for sloth003, a block called Kaleidoscope Variation from the McCall's Quilting site.  I REALLY love how this block came out!  Time-consuming, but very much worth it:

11.8:
A few more blocks to share today!

First, a star block for SimplySandy.  I have to tell you all how proud I am of this block, because it's my first time ever paper piecing!!  I've been avoiding it for so long, but I was really stuck deciding on a star block to make.  Someone made this one for me in LQS3 and I've always loved it, so I decided this was the weekend to tackle paper piecing.  I LOVE how it came out!  The pattern is String Stars 2 from Quilter's Cache (http://www.quilterscache.com/S/StringStars2Block.html).

Next up is chinarockfishakm's block.  I am a HUGE, HUGE fan of the Anna Maria Horner fabrics that she sent out, so I wanted to make sure I could highlight them.  I decided to make a simple yet effective circle block, using a new curved cutting ruler that I picked up at Joann's.  I'm very happy with this one, too.

I decided to make another circle block for Shout4Joy.  Again, her fabrics and colors are so vibrant that they make a huge statement even with a simple design.  Hope you like my block, Joy!

This next block is for 1b1g1k2.  I knew I wanted to feature her quote square, so I just built the block out from there.  No pattern, just made it up as I went along!

Finally, I attempted another paper pieced block for marmish.  I decided to use the "Circling Geese" pattern on Forest Quilting (a great resource for free patterns, BTW: http://www.forestquilting.com/paperpiecingfree/paperpiecingfree_pg3.html).  Unfortunately, I think the design got a little lost because I didn't have enough of the plain white for the middle section, and had to use some of the patterned fabric.  I wanted the green geese to suggest a wreath, but I don't think I achieved that.  Overall, though, I think (hope) it will look nice in marmish's final quilt.

Just a few more to go!

11.30:

Here's my block for summertimerolls:

I finished up the first design on Pearliepie's towel and sent it off this morning.  Pearl asked for a "Wild West Saloon" theme ... hope this comes close enough!  Since the towel was blank and this was a pretty large design, I centered it on the towel.  I hope that's OK -- I know it's prime real estate!

The pattern is a free pattern from Andrea Zuill's Badbird blog (http://zuill.us/andreablog/category/embroidery/free-patterns/).

Finally ironed my towel and got some decent pictures.  Here is my initial design:

I'm so glad I bound it ... I love the way it looks!

I am thinking of asking for an "underwater" theme.  Now I just have to exercise some restraint and not keep adding to it for the next week and a half!

10  Re: Lap Quilts For All Swap- Round 4! CLOSED! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by j_q_adams on: November 19, 2008 10:39:57 AM
Here are some pictures I took today of a few of my fabric bundles.  Every packet is a bit different, but these should give a good idea of my selections ....
