1  Re: Craft with a Fat Quarter Swap Gallery (SO 4/18/11) in The Swap Gallery by grimmscreed on: May 05, 2011 07:25:22 AM
I received this lovely package from clementinefairy earlier this week!  This is the whole thing: an organizer, a tea wallet, a bookmark, a coaster, and two fat quarters.

Here is the inside of the organizer.  I've already been making good use of it (and the tea wallet) at work.  The little pockets on the right ares perfect for carrying my daily schedule around, and it's great for writing notes.

And here is a close up of the fat quarters.  Aren't they lovely?  I see a quilted patchwork basket in their future!

My thank you package from dharma_rebel arrived in the mail a few days ago, but I didn't get any pictures until today.

First, let me introduce you to my new friends:

Aren't they darling???  I especially love the little gnome dressed as a squirrel!!!

And they brought this tiny chest with them:

But what's inside?

Perfect little felted acorns, and buttons to match the girl gnome!  Thank you dharma_rebel -- I loved everything!

I received a *fantastic* package from spazgirl1981 yesterday!  Let's start with the adorable floral basket, complete with 2 painted eggs.

These are exactly my favorite kind of spring colors -- riotously bright and cheerful. This is going straight onto my altar!  It's about time I decorated it for spring, don't you think?

Next, check out this fabulous tarot box:

And here is a better picture of the top, which is covered in the most wonderful faery gifts!  These are really perfect -- the key is actually a major symbol in my tradition, so that is fantastic appropriate, and I love all of the doodads.  And the glitter.  Gotta love the glitter.  My Faeries' Oracle deck is fits perfectly!

Now, what did I see when I opened it up?

Spell components and an anti-depression spell! The spell will really come in handy, too.

Last, but not least, we have a lovely hand-painted tarot bag:

I think that this lovely may house my runes.  Their current bag is fraying rather badly, and this is the perfect size to reach my hand into.

Thank you so much for a fabulous swap package, spazgirl1981!  It really brightened my day -- everything is just perfect!

4  Re: Fake Swapping Craft-along (ongoing) in Craftalongs by grimmscreed on: February 09, 2011 07:33:20 AM
I received from my partner in the gnome swap today!  Here it is, hanging in my kitchen.

This represents her first attempt at quilting something larger than a mug rug, so she was a bit nervous about sending it as a swap item, but I think it came out pretty well (if a bit lumpy -- she didn't have a walking foot yet when she did the machine quilted portions!)  And all of the fabrics were already in her stash, which is pretty impressive.  It was also her first time using fusible webbing (for the applique), which turned out to be frustrating, but successful.

5  xkcd: real programmers have wives who embroider in Needlework: Completed Projects by grimmscreed on: January 09, 2011 12:16:40 PM
This was my husband's Christmas present from me this year.  It's the last panel from his favorite xkcd strip (http://xkcd.com/378/).  I did the whole thing in backstitch, which I HATE, but it produced a very sketchy line which I thought was appropriate for the subject matter.   Wink

6  Re: craft your resolution 2011 in Craftalongs by grimmscreed on: January 09, 2011 12:12:22 PM
I had two craft-y resolutions for this year:  master one craft form and make a quilt for my bed (I have never made a real quilt before in my life).  I have rapidly come to realize that they are going to be one and the same, as I have begun an obsession with quilting!  This isn't surprising, since I become obsessed *every* time I learn a new craft, but it makes sense to combine the two, doesn't it?

I have decided to begin my practicing different quilting techniques on mug rugs (and yes, I am considering joining the swap!)  I have two done so far, and am working on the third.  Mug rug #3 would be much closer to finished, but I started machine quilting it and wasn't sure I liked how it looked.  So I did the obvious thing and added four more lines, to see if that would help.   Roll Eyes  Now I am picking them all out and will be trying to hand quilt some kind of interesting motif onto it.

Here was my first mug rug, a very simple affair made with Christmas fabric left over from the stocking I made for my mom last year.  I just wrapped the back around the form the binding on this one.

And here is my second mug rug, a log cabin block.  This was my first attempt at proper binding, which I am very proud of!

First, I want to apologize to spidermom for taking so long to post pictures of the wonderful package she sent me -- the holiday week-end got a bit overwhelming!  But better late than never, right?

Here is the whole spread, unpacked from it's box and arranged on my disastrously messy dining room table!

Here is the box of delicious herbal teas and the most adorable little tea cup stuffie I've ever seen!

Then we have the cozy winter items:  a pumpkin scented candle (my favorite) and a set of soft blue scarf and hand warmers!

And last (but not least) we have a close up of the amazing little bike themed bag she found for me!  I'm a bike commuter, so I really love this.  I think I'll have to find a use for it in my craft room.

Thank you spidermom!

8  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap-September 2010 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by grimmscreed on: October 15, 2010 12:14:52 PM
Ah ha!  This week has been crazy, but I finally had time to photograph my last 2 ATCs!   Grin

First, we have this lovely Jack Skellington from SecretAgentStarchild.  Isn't he darling?  And just as I'm getting into the Halloween season!

And then we have this fantastic card from tcmatteson.  It combines poetry, dream, and keys -- she actually fit the first stanza of a Poe poem into that moon!

Thanks so much, both of you!

I'm so glad that LauPre liked her package, because she sent me an AMAZING package!  Just look at this little book for me to carry my embroidery supplies in!

Aren't those owls darling?  And I love the colors!  But it gets even better -- here it is all opened up.

Lots of pockets and some darn spiffy fabric!  But what is that snap concealing?

A built in needlebook!

Thank you so much for a fantastic swap!

10  Re: mini 13 days of halloween gallery round 2 in The Swap Gallery by grimmscreed on: September 28, 2010 05:50:59 AM
Day 13!

The bags:

The pencils and stickers were unwrapped in the coffin, so I decided to claim them today!

The packages:

The pile of nearly wrapped packages is now sitting on my coffee table to taunt me for the next 13 days.  Wink

Day 12!

An adorable strand of skulls, straight from my wists!  I apologize for the crummy picture -- the kitchen was the only (semi)neat place I could take a picture of them stretched out -- they are even cuter in person, and are decorating the area above my desk right now.

And here is a close-up of one of the skulls, to show how much personality the little guys have:

Day 11!

Today I got....

a wonderful pumpkin scented candle AND a package of caffeine free pumpkin pie loose tea!  It'll be nice to be able to enjoy pumpkin-y tea in the evenings now. :-)

Day 10!

An adorable wooden coffin (lined in purple!) filled with pumpkin charms!  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them yet, but they are darling!

Day 9!

An adorably creepy pumpkin surrounded by black and white tentacles!  I apologize for the crummy picture -- trying to take photos at night has proven challenging, and I wanted to get it up here as quickly as I could!

Day 8!

A pumpkin shaped book of Halloween goodness!

The front cover:

A sample from the interior:

Day 7!

A really fun Halloween frame!

Day 6!

Some adorable Halloween ornaments!  I don't have a Halloween tree (though clearly I should), so for now they are hanging from my kitchen cabinets.

Day 5!

A pair of adorable Alice in Wonderland in Halloween ATCs!  I really need to find a good way to display ATCs.... I don't want to just put these in a box with the others!!!

Day 4!

Candy day!  Two great big bags of Starbursts for me to enjoy.

Day 3!

Two adorable pumpkin picture holders!  Sculpey is my crafting kryptonite, so I am super impressed by these, and by the tentacle pumpkin earlier!

Day 2!

An adorable hanging witch plus two pumpkin dish towels!  These rock, since my current Halloween dish towels are in the process of falling apart.  Very sad, that.

Day 1!

A plethora of fun Halloween notecards!  I shall have to send a few of these out next year, but only to people I really like.   Wink

And here is my favorite, proudly displayed by a pumpkin picture holder!

Thank you so much, H00lie, for a fabulous swap!
