21  Whatever Lola Wants in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: March 04, 2009 07:38:24 PM
I've made this necklace before in black and mirrored acrylic, but really wanted to try out a white one with a chunkier chain, I may go even more kitsch and add some of that fun plastic chain they sell for birds. I love it! It looks really cute with jeans and tank tops.

I have plans to make one with tiny skulls in place of the beads. Grin

The necklace is laser cut from white acrylic/perspex.  Smiley

22  Carpe Noctem in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: February 22, 2009 04:53:54 PM
I wanted to share a few of my (recent) favorite laser-cut pieces! For anyone interested in laser cut jewelry, ponoko.com is a great place to start if you are not able to purchase or rent a machine. If you do want to find a distributor in your area, epiloglaser.com is the place to find out information needed before purchasing. Smiley

I made a few two-part brooches from acrylic last month, but this is my favorite, I think!

Carpe Noctem:

I don't have a photograph of it being worn as a brooch, but I do have the necklace version photographed on someone:

And this is the Carpe Diem brooch being worn (sorry for the poor quality photo):

I also just finished playing around with gold mirrored acrylic and made a beetle necklace (my absolute favorite!):

And a whimsical sparrows and flowers necklace:

Thank you for having a look! I hope you all had a great weekend!

23  My cynical valentine... in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: January 29, 2009 05:01:27 PM
I just finished this up today! It's my new favorite. Smiley The design was kind of tricky as I wanted it to be web-like and not too easy to read, but I did want it to be read. So it's slightly deceptive. Cheesy The web is laser cut from black acrylic with the text "The heart is deceitful above all things". A tiny little spider dangles from the letter "G" at the bottom.

Interested to hear what you think of it! Happy Valentine's Day!

24  Leashed Beetle Brooch in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: January 24, 2009 12:31:36 PM
This is my new favorite brooch! Anyone remember those live hissing cockroach brooches on America's Next Top Model?  Shocked This is kind of inspired by that, and also the live jewelry of the Victorian era.

Live beetle brooches are still being made today. The adult species used does not feed or fly. From what little I know, it's very sad because when the beetles are not being worn they are put in a tiny box barely bigger than they are and just storedSad

I think this is a fun alternative with a little bit of the creepy factor, and it lets the real beetles run free.

The beetle and anchor piece are made from laser cut acrylic connected by gunmetal chain. The beetle is adorned with sparkly Swarovksi crystals. Thanks for checking it out!

25  Acrylic Silhouette Jewelry in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: January 22, 2009 05:43:47 PM
Hello! I've been playing around with some new laser cut designs and wanted to get some opinions on this two-finger ring. I call it "Raw Sugar".  Grin I designed it to look like natural quartz formations, but it also kind of looks like a warbled cityscape or a comic "pow" bubble to me. Just a bit. It's really lightweight and fun, but it restricts the movement of your fingers. It's taking me a while to get used to it.  Smiley

I think this one looks kind of like a Ring Pop (remember those?)!

Tiny white rabbit earrings:

Bat!

Little fawn:

Leaves. I named them Vanilla Lace:

Thank you for looking! If anyone is interested in laser cutting and you do not have access to a laser, there is a website called www.ponoko.com that offers the service. I'm not sure how their pricing works, but it would probably be good for one of a kind pieces that you design for yourself or friends. A good (free!) program to design in is Inkscape.

If you do have access to a laser and are familiar with it... is there a rubber material that you've successfully cut without melting? I'm having a hard time with it.  Smiley Thank you!

26  Stag Trophe in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: November 15, 2008 05:39:22 PM
I decided to cut myself a faux stag! It is made from 1/8" Birch wood --- I think it is super kitschy.

Raw wood:

Decoupage!:

What do you think?  Cheesy

27  Down the Rabbit Hole... in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: November 15, 2008 04:02:23 PM
Happy weekend!! I just wanted to share some of my new stuff. I made my first acrylic rings today - they are so fun to wear! I made a ship ring and a text ring also, but I only have photos of my bunny ring. I used 1/4" acrylic so it's got a nice chunky feel to it and it's super durable.

Down the Rabbit Hole!:

29  Sweet Penelope in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: October 11, 2008 05:39:13 PM
I named these after my mother.  Smiley I made the design into a necklace originally and she wanted to see earrings. So we came up with these!

They have just the right amount of swing and look really cute with your hair pulled into a messy updo.

These are the original necklaces:

The acrylic silhouette in both the necklace and earrings measures 1.5" inches wide and 1/8" thick. I used gunmetal findings for both the white and black acrylic. I'm going through an antiqued silver phase.  Smiley Thanks for having a look!

30  Memento Mori Hoops in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by UntamedMenagerie on: October 11, 2008 04:41:20 PM
Lately I've been seeing hoops with script across the center all over the place. I've seen the "Baby Phat" version quite a bit, the Sweethearts, a couple of extra large hoops with the word "Love" scrawled through them. I think hoop earrings are fantastic and I liked these ideas, but I wanted something a little different. One day I was in a mood and decided I needed a pair that weren't so sugary sweet. These might be overkill, but that's precisely why I adore them! Memento Mori is Latin for "remember your mortality" or "remember you will die". They are both made from 1/8" acrylic and gunmetal findings.
