11  Re: Music that changed my life swap (SIGNUPS AUG25-SEP4) SENDOUTS OCT 15 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by malisha on: October 14, 2010 04:08:13 PM
I sent today!!! And, I went to buy one last thing before sending!!! GUESS WHERE I WENT???

After all... we're getting close to Day of the dead!!!

What else could a Mexican girl send???

It is called "la feria del alfeñique" which is only open during october (all over the country) and there you can buy sugar & chocolate skulls, decorations, and much more typical candies which are related to the day of the dead ofrendas and celebrations.

Hope you like them! (they're tiny because they're heavy and I neeeded to keep the package under 1 pound and I was already sending something kind of heavy)

12  My tennis court quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by malisha on: October 10, 2010 12:46:13 PM
Hi everyone!!!

My boyfriend is a tennis addict! he plays, he coaches, he watches... he dreams tennis!!! And he lives in a freaking cold appartment, so he had been asking me for something to keep him warm while he watches tv, and after 4 years of asking.... (okay i'm a bit slow) i made this for him:

It's a tennis court with 2 of his favourite moves while playing (i took pictures of him playing and then made them on fabric) and 2 racquets which actually have strings, I tried to make them the more correctly possible but it was hard. I even asked him to teach me how to string. So I believe it turned out okay

Me quilting it while the dogs were fighting to keep it (it was the closest I've felt to having children)

13  Re: The Ongoing Poppet and Punkin-Along in Craftalongs by malisha on: October 09, 2010 11:35:44 AM
I've been lurking for a long time. I've made another puppet before, but never uploaded the pics (and believe me, she was waay more beautiful than this, but this one had a special meaning to me) I'll upload the other one soon, promise.

On september 15 we mexicans celebrated the bicentennial of mexican Independence. We had a huuuge celebration, which included a parade (kind of a carnival but in a mexican way). I volunteered to participate in there. We started rehearsing on january and it was one of the best things that has happened to me.  I was chosen as one of the main dancers, and in the end we took our costumes home with us... I made myself a poppet.

The body is made out of the vest we wore before we got our costumes, It's not the best fabric for puppets because it's not stretchable and it makes her legs look like she's got celulitis, but has a special meaning to me and the costume is a replica of mine. She has white hair because we were going to wear white wigs.

Here's her thread with the whole story and pictures of the HUGE EVENT http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=361625.0

14  My mambo dancer poppet in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by malisha on: October 09, 2010 11:21:17 AM
On september 15 we mexicans celebrated the bicentennial of mexican Independence. We had a huuuge celebration, which included a parade (kind of a carnival but in a mexican way). I volunteered to participate in there. We started rehearsing on january and it was one of the best things that has happened to me.

In the beginning we were over 70 000 people who wanted to participate, after interviews, castings and stuff, only 7500 were chosen.

I was chosen as a Mambo dancer, actually I was one of the main dancers (the ones that were dancing next to really famous mexican artists). The day of the event, everything came out perfectly, (despite the fact that we were up from 5 am to 3 am next day) and in the end we were allowed to take our costumes home with us.

These were our costumes, I loved them but I knew I'd never wear those again so....

I made myself a poppet using only the things we used in the parade.

Last week, mexico's president gave us a diploma and thanked us for participating, and I took her to the event. Everyone was in love with her, even the director of the event was thrilled!!!

Hope you like her as much as I do

And as a random picture (my fave picture) during the celebrations, fireworks made the mexican flag in Mexico's main hall.

Here are more pictures if you want to see them (found them in an american newspage) http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/09/mexicos_bicentennial.html?s_campaign=8315. If you read it, just let me clarify that WE ARE NOT HAVING A BRUTAL NATIONWIDE DRUG WAR  (newspapers tend to overreact about minimal stuff) things are pretty peaceful in here. And the government didnt spend much because we all volunteered and most of the things were donated.

19  Re: Little Visitor 11 Winter Galleries !!! in The Swap Gallery by malisha on: March 07, 2010 11:01:28 AM
SOOORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG TO POST THE PICTURES!

Here's Ameyaltzin back from Australia
And she brought a friend (which I've had to hide because my brother's boyfriend has tried to steal since he saw it)

And doesn't she look adorable in her santa's hat?

She brought goodies from the US (and there's a "I love NY" fridge magnet too, not pictured because it's on the fridge right now)

AND then australian goodies!! A calendar with really nice pictures (on my wall right now) and temporary tattoos (I gave ONE to each of my nieces, they're 2, and they keep asking me for more, but that WONT happen, because I'm mean and I will use them in a crafty way)

I'm a september baby & I love nature! And my favourite picture of the entire calendar is in my favourite month! How cool is that!

And  the scrapbook... which I cannot figure where on earth I left it. Becka sent me a super cool recipe of lammingtons and I made them last week (last time that the scrapbook was seen... so might be in the kitchen, I swear I'll look for it and post my fave pictures) btw, do you still have the pictures in your computer? My little brother collects M&M's and was completely crazy about the picture with M&M Elvis. He tried to unglue the picture (but I didnt let him mwahahaa)

It was such a cool swap! We had so much fun with Gus (not only me but my entire family and friends) that I was about to kidnap him (kidding) hopefully he arrives soon and hopefully you like everything I sent. I tried the scrapbook to reflect everyday's life here in mexico and didnt let go any of the traditions that are held between those months. Hope you get the idea!

20  Re: Fill a mug round 5 gallery in The Swap Gallery by malisha on: February 09, 2010 10:15:27 PM
Here is my super mega awesome package, I got it a week ago, but my camera didnt want to cooperate!!

The first thing I saw when I opened the box was an envelope, with a card which said that she bought the cup before checking my wists (my heart started bumping like crazy!!)

Here's the mug! It's perfect! I love it! I've been wanting a mug like this for ages! Besides.. It's hugeee!! so I can drink gallons of tea!! (and I kept the box too)

These super cute fridge magnets (my favourite one is the bread one)

Pink yarn (can you tell which is my favourite colour?)

Coasters

Tea wallet

Cookies and honey sticks (I loved the ones with raspberry filling ... actually they're gone now!)

Some pomegranate & raspberry green tea, and jasmine blossom green tea (which amused me because i thought it would taste less as green tea and discovered that I loved, specially the pomegranate and raspberry)

The most amazingly soft and warm pink & black scarf (which was perfect for that day because.. it was freezing and, I was wearing black)

Thanks Troublet!!! I really loved everything and I was super spoiled!!!!!

GRACIAS POR TODO! eN SERIO ME ENCANTO!!
