.... and it shows!
I'm chuffed with the final result though.... and some of my experiments along the way....
I needed a silhouette of a hockey player for a journal I'm working on ... basically I do a page for each letter of the alphabet picking something about me right here right now - so that when I am a granny I can look back on it and see what floated my boat in 2008;
I loooooooove hockey - so my page for the letter H was a no brainer.
I was tempted to just prepare my page background and then print the silhouette over the top, or just cut an outline out and stick it on, but I thought a stencilled image might look better.... and I was right.
So - I found a clip art silhouette, printed it out, and stuck a inkjet transparency over the top- and cut it out using an x-acto knife.
So far so good.
My first practice attempt at using it - with a spray ink - total disaster:
then when I ran the transparency under the tap to clean it off, the coating on the back of the transparency went all gunky and weird and it took me ages to clean it all up (maybe a laser transparency would have been better than an inkjet one!)
I quite like the impression left on the paper towel I used to pat it dry though
While the stencil was drying I had a go with the bit I had cut out, and used it as a mask...
Stippled with pigment ink on white card (I quite like this effect):
Black card, with white pigment ink spread outwards around the mask with a make up sponge (and I like this one even more - really gives the impression of speed):
And then afterwards I had another go with the stencil - this time using dye inks applied with foam (rather haphazardly):
Enough practicing, already - here is the finished journal page:
(it's supposed to look all scratchy like that....kind of supposed to look like the surface of the ice with skate scratches and stuff, that was the intention anyhow)
I enjoyed my first tenuous exploration into stencildom, and will definitely be making some more (especially after browsing through this forum and seeing the awesome things you guys have made!!! I have some freezer paper tucked away somewhere....must dig it out tonight....)
