91  Re: The Book-Lovers Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by spotnik on: December 17, 2008 05:14:38 PM
Squeeeeee!!!!!

So I have to say that norahkate is the best swap angel EVER!

I have to share my loot - are you prepared to be jealous??   Wink

First, a really awesome book tote in the softest gray corduroy and lined with elephant flannel!!!!  I love elephants.  Along with a treasure box with the cover of one of my favorite novels on it.  "The Well of Lost Plots" by Jasper Fforde - it is great.

Next - the inside of the treasure box with the fun loot.  You will note that one of the bookmarks is a lizard.  This lizard now lives on my computer monitor at work - I call him "Monitor Lizard."   Grin Roll Eyes Grin  Yes, I am a dork.  Thanks for asking.  The belt that you see in this picture is a book belt - see the action shot below.

Book belt in use:  Same awesome fabrics as the tote.

And finally, the best thing ever!!!  (Yes, Norah, I do think she's the best!  Grin )  A stuffie of one of my World of Warcraft characters.  She's soft and squeezable, and she hangs out with me while I play WoW.

Oh!  And a really cool WoW Holiday ornament/diorama that DH already made off with.

Thank you thank you thank you norah!  A million times thank you!!!!

93  Amigurumi Fat Kitty in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by spotnik on: November 22, 2008 01:52:42 PM
I recently got to participate in the Pincushion swap and ended up making an ami kitty for my partner.

She's made of a super soft, sport weight nylon/acrylic blend yarn and #10 crochet thread.  The eyes are 6mm safety eyes and the nose and whiskers are embroidery thread.  I am pretty happy with the way she came out.  I made her up as I went along - my first Ami without using a pattern!!  Cheesy

Thanks for looking!  Grin

Hi there gang.  Unfortunately, it appears my swap partner has flaked.  However, I did want to share pics of the stuff I made for her.  I had loads of fun crafting these, and I hope you like them too!  Grin

So, first I decided to make a totebag.

I sewed a satiny pocket on one side, and the other side is decorated using fabric paints (which I haven't used in ages, so my handwriting with paints is not so good anymore.

Then I had this idea to make bookplates using my die cutter and printable labels.

And I found some really cool paper.

Of course, there had to be bookmarks too.

The rainbow one is crocheted from crochet thread, as is the blue one, which also has some fire polished beads crocheted onto it.  The other one is sparkly bronze and aqua ribbon topped with some turquoise and other beads.

I threw in a couple extras but did not take pics of those.

 Grin

97  Retro crafty in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by spotnik on: October 10, 2008 04:45:28 PM
So, this past summer I started selling crocheted goodness at our local farmers' and crafters' market.  I had several people come and ask if I knew how to make the crocheted towel toppers.  You know, like on towels that grandma used to have?  I didn't but I certainly learned how.

I thought I'd share, since I was really surprised by the overwhelming response.

I used a regular size dish towel and folded it in thirds.  I then used a tapestry needle to blanket stitch along the top folded edge.  Be careful when doing this, as the tapestry needle has a habit of catching the loops of the terrycloth.  I used white cotton yarn along the top.  Then I crocheted a triangular topper, alternating with single crochet on the decrease rows and half double crochet on the even rows.  I used Lily Sugar and Cream multi-color yarn for the topper.  When the topper had decreased to around 12 - 14 stitches, I finished off and then rejoined to make the fastener loop, which is 6 stitches wide.  I think finding coordinating buttons was one of the most fun parts of this project.  I even made a matching dish cloth in the same yarn.   Grin

That being said, here are some pics.  Thanks for looking!

I finally finished one.  I used Encore Colorspun by Plymouth Yarn.  It is a worsted weight acrylic, variegated in light blue, light yellow and white.

Ok, camera batteries have returned from the dead.

Yesterday's clusters:

And today's lace crochet - I couldn't find my laceweight yarn, so I used a variegated sock yarn and  a 3 mm Clover hook.  My birthday is the 5th of October, so not too many stitches today. (Yes, I have a shameful addiction to variegated yarn.   Cool )

And a close up of the lacy bit:

Well, my little OCD brain couldn't handle the trailing base chain.  So I frogged it and re-worked it.

Pics will be forthcoming if I can get my SD card to work.
