I am not 100% this belongs here, but our apartment is one story up, so the balcony ideally would just be a cute little sitting/sun room that's just off the living room for us, so still interior. Right now we are in the planning stages of the make over. Our little balcony has so much potential, but right now its only use is when my husband or guests smoke. So I thought it would be best to enlist of help of the wonderful craftsters. We do rent, but we have the landlord's ok to do with the apartment as we like as long as it looks or is professionally done, I can't wait until we can agree on colors to paint the inside and ditch the nasty old rental carpets! We are going to be here a while, might as well make it home.
The first problem is it faces the west, so the sun in the afternoon is brutal
. So we are trying to find the best way to provide shade, the 2 ideas on the table right now are curtains or bamboo blinds.
The second problem is although that folding "couch" is comfy, and it's fine for when it's just 2 people out there, but it takes up so much room no one else can comfortably be out there. Also, it's ugly and beaten so it has to go. We haven't come up with anything we are willing to say is winning the race to replace them.
Thirdy, "table top" space. Those blue fold down tables have worked well, but they are really a pain because in use they eat up a good deal of the space. To solve this we are working out a wood counter top that would attach to the edge of the wall, and stick out about a foot or so. Any ideas or suggestions to places to look for help would be great.
The only 2 things on the balcony that will stay are Herbert, my lemon tree, and the grill, its the black thing tucked in behind the folding couch. The grill was a gift from my father in law, and I thought he was crazy to give it to us with such little space, but we love it, gets tons of use, and its just the right size.
We are also planning to replace the dirty screen door and those vertical blinds will be leaving once paint colors are choosen.
I apologize for my novel long post! And look forward to your ideas and suggestions. Thanks
