1  COOKING / Dessert / Movie Night Birthday Cake on: April 26, 2008 08:02:04 PM
So my birthday was last night, and the bf and I decided we wanted to have a birthday cake and movie night.

The movie?  David Lynch's "Blue Velvet."

The cake?  Blue Velvet Cake.

All it was was German Chocolate cake mix with sour cream, blue food coloring, and cream cheese frosting!  But look how fun!

Here you can see the very blue batter.

And here's the final product (a little blurry)!

Slice cake, plug in dvd, and enjoy!

Where did you get this pattern?  Audrey Hepburn is hands down my number one greatest inspiration in life...I love this so hard.

This is my very very first post, so if it's in the wrong place have mercy on the n00b.

I made this for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day.  I got the idea from this guy who makes sculptures out of Legos.  His name is Nathan Sawaya, as the wonderfully helpful BeatnikChick has just informed me.

All I did was take a block of floral foam and sculpt it into the general shape of the heart, sans arteries.  I hot glued the hearts all over, trying my best to cover everything.  When I got to the top I just started building up from the bulk of the heart so the arteries would be hollow.

(You can see the strings of hot glue that I had yet to clean off)

He still hasn't been allowed to take it home, because I just made it's base the other day.  I'm too lazy to take pictures of that right now, but basically I just took another smaller square of floral foam and covered it with the leftover green, yellow, and white hearts.  Then I stuck the heart on a short dowel and stabbed it in (gluing the crap out of it for security).

I'm thinking about making a set of lungs out of Altoids next.  I actually have an entire set of organs I'd like to make.  What do you think?

I am in awe of your talent.  Seriously.  I don't think I could ever be that creative.

How on earth did you fold them to get them so perfect?  I'd love to try to make some, but I'm afraid I'd just wind up with a hunk of folded felt.

Very awesome!  Thanks for posting where you got the tins.  I've been looking for tins like that for ages, but I never knew exactly what they were.
