3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / vintage 70's pattern = my $6 dress!! on: August 19, 2008 09:28:21 PM
I have been very busy with a fulltime job this summer, but now that I have a few weeks before school starts, I have gotten back to sewing!

(I was the one that made like 3 bathing suits in a week at the beginning of the summer!)

anyway, I found a vintage pattern at a local thrift store, and thought it was extremely adorable.  I am pretty sure it dates to sometime in the 70's.  The pattern was $2, and the fabric that I used for the dress was from the dollar wrack at Wal-mart! I got 4 yards, so that makes the total cost of the dress around $6!

I made this one in about 3.5 hours tonight.
Let me know what you think!

4  COOKING / Dessert / My first Fondant - and my boyfriend's 21st birthday! on: May 22, 2008 05:51:09 PM

I'm not going to lie and say this was easy...
It was actually pretty hard..
but he was worth it =]

and yes it was yummy!!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / SILVER METALLIC SWIM SUIT!!+INFINITY DRESS(pic heavy) on: May 13, 2008 05:55:11 PM
So this is my newest creation.. I just finished it tonight.. took.. well.. a longgg time..
but i finally finished it and I love it just as much as my gold one, even though they are completely different styles!!

I included a detail of the top.. I top stitched in hot pink to match the straps.
and btw.. i realized why I never want to sew bathing suit ties again..
They are insane to turn inside out!

anyway.. let me know what you think!!

So.. I never really wanted to make one of these because none of the ways of tying it seemed like it would look very flattering on me!

Then I saw this thread..

I loveeddd the way she tied the dress, so I decided it was worth trying!

I got some super soft knit from Wal-mart today (off the $1 rack of course)..
It took me almost 2 hours, mostly because I don't have a big cutting mat, and I was being a huge perfectionist about the edges being perfect!!

sorry.. crappy pictures again!!
Anyway.. I know it isn't anything new, but I like it =]

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Just Finished!!! 60's wrap dress? on: April 22, 2008 03:37:47 PM
so after 3 days of sewing.. i'm finally finished!!

it's made out of cotton from Joann's.. I got it last week on sale for probably $1.50 a yard?

this is the pattern i used...

.. and some details..

btw.. i've made a few other things in the past couple weeks.. and of course I'm starting a new dress (i'm kind of obsessed with the dress thing right now).. but I"ll just make one big post later with all of them in it.. (about 4 i made a while back.. and i have about 7 or so floating around in my head!)
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Ballet anyone? on: April 21, 2008 02:12:53 PM
So after working on my photography project this weekend, I realized.. Hey! I've made this and no one has seen it yet!! But alas! Now I have nice pictures =]

The girl in the picture is not me.. but rather a friend that is a few years younger.. I actually made the purple dress/tutu for my senior prom, but was too lazy to add an under layer so that it wouldn't be see through.. at least I got to use it for this project!  We just happen to be about the same size.. so it worked out pretty well!

^the back.. its a really weird angle taken from above.. sorry!!!

but the straps in the picture are not part of the dress.. Hopefully you can see the leotard shes wearing underneath and recognize the parts that aren't the garment!

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / swim suit! on: April 17, 2008 04:04:13 PM
So I'm not really sure how.. but somehow i bought probably d ouble the amount of fabric i needed? i swear i bought what the pattern called for.. but i could make probably 3 more bathing suits out of what i have left over!

I used McCall's 5400
anyway.. here we go..
I hope no one is offended by these picutres.. the suit does not look normal when just laid out on the ground!
(oh yeah and the top has ruffles on the inner edge.. you cant really tell in the pictures)

sorry there isn't a full body shot.. I can't take pictures of myself very well.. so I just used my webcam! Maybe I'll upload better pictures later
