1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Laptop Messenger Bag on: August 08, 2008 11:21:21 AM
I FINALLY have a reason to make a messenger bag for my laptop.  I am going to work part-time at the school my boys attend and will be doing some work at the school and some at home.  I will need to take my laptop there, so I NEEDED a pretty bag for it!!!

I ordered the closed cell foam mentioned in a post in the questions part.  It is great for such a bag!!

The fabric is by Anna Maria Horner in her new Garden Party line.  I just LOVE it!!!!!!  I think I will make another laptop bag to sell, but I will use a more simplistic pattern!!  I made my own pattern for this bag.  I had a picture in my head of what I wanted - EXACTLY what I wanted!!  It is always worse when you know exactly what you want because then you have to figure out how to do it!!!

I am very pleased with how it turned out.  I originally made it too big (erred on the side of caution) and ended up picking it apart and cutting it down smaller.

It has two sections inside - the one with velcro for the laptop and another section for folders and the power cord, although I think the cord will probably also fit with the laptop.  The front section includes an area of pockets for pens, a calculator, and other little items.

I also included a large pocket on the back for those last minute files and things!

Enough of my rambling, here is the bag!!

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Lots of Items! on: July 18, 2008 07:31:10 PM
I have been rather busy lately with the boys home for the summer.  I had a nice order for the group of bags and items.  The rounded one is reversible - that is why I have posted both pictures!

There is the rounded purse, a tote, a checkbook cover, a key fob, a bank bag, and a cell phone case.

I then finished this one for the lady who cuts my hair:

I am hoping to have time to look at things soon!!!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Can I buy a hard wallet to cover? on: July 02, 2008 03:15:18 AM
I have had a request for a hard wallet.  I had never heard of one until I Googled it.  It is really neat!  Does anybody know if one can be bought to cover?

So you can see what I mean:

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Gifts on: June 24, 2008 11:30:21 AM
We have friends who recently adopted a little girl from China.  (They already had four boys and decided to add a little girl!!)  My husband will be seeing the proud new father tomorrow, so I have made a little purse for her.

I have had a very good friend since the beginning of our seventh grade year of school WAY back in 1982!!!  She has just recently taken a new job and moved with her family.  I decided I would send something to her, so I made a tote for her in the same fabrics I made the little one.

They look like "Mommy and Me" bags, but that is just because I really liked the fabric combinations!!  I thought it was fitting for a two year old and thought my friend would also like them.

Both bags have magnetic snaps and pockets inside.

Thank you for looking!!
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Wallet and Change purse on: June 22, 2008 06:19:31 PM
I was inspired by the many posts with wallets.  I gathered the tuts I liked best and combined aspects to come up with a wallet like I wanted!

This is the wallet from the outside:

SHHHH, don't tell anybody, but I sort-of made a mistake and originally put the snap in the wrong place.  When I took it out, I had these little holes on the front.  I made the little yoyo to cover the holes!!  I actually liked the look of it there after adding it!!!  I was glad I had made the little mistake!!!!

Here is the inside unfolded:

There wasn't enough space for all those extra cards, so I also made a little change purse type thing for all of those!!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / patchwork skirt with matching purse on: June 12, 2008 05:29:42 AM
I have not made an item of clothing for quite a while.  I love Anna Maria Horner's Chocolate Lollipop line and have had the idea for a little patchwork skirt in the back of my mind for quite a while.  I got some 4"x4" squares of the material and made the skirt.  I then made a purse to match!

The skirt:

I had a patchwork skirt made like this from JCrew about 20 years ago.  I still have it, but I could not find it when I was making my skirt!  I had planned to use it as my pattern, but I just had to wing it.  I thought I bought some elastic for the waist, but after much searching could never find it.  I finally found the receipt from my trip to the store when I thought I had bought it and elastic was not listed!!  I had all three boys (a 6 1/2 year old and 4 1/2 year old twins) with me that day and they had picked fabric for tote bags.  I think the girl checking us out must have gotten overwhelmed by us and forgot to ring up my elastic!  I made a bunch of maternity pants 7 years ago when I was pregnant with my oldest son and put lightweight elastic in those.  I took it out of one pair and used it in the skirt, but I need a stronger elastic.  The elastic I am using now just isn't quite enough to hold it up right!

The purse to match:

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tote bag with crooked fabric on: June 09, 2008 06:48:30 PM
The bottom fabric was crooked on this.  It really aggravated me!!  Other than that, I like the tote - it is a bigger size.  The crooked fabric makes it look like the purse is crooked, but it isn't --- I have measured it!!

I worked and worked with the fabric, but it just wasn't right.  I thought maybe it would look better after the bag was finished, but it doesn't!

Oh well.

The other side:

As you can see, both sides are wonky.  It is from the same cut of fabric - I think it just didn't print right!
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / School tote for teacher on: June 05, 2008 05:14:35 PM
My oldest son is 6 and graduated from kindergarten today!  His teacher has bought a few of my purses, so I already knew she loved those.  I decided to make a tote she can use coming and going to school.  I did the school logo on it.  It was a last minute decision - I started last night around 8:30 and finished around midnight!!  It was well worth it, though!!

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tote with roses on: May 31, 2008 10:28:35 AM
I have used two more of the Amy Butler fat quarters I don't like as well!!  I have been setting these fabrics aside because I don't particularly like the colors.  I decided to make several handbags at once and use up some of the pale pinks!!
