14  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Inspired by Nancy Drew's Sleuth Bag (pic heavy)(added tutorial) on: January 26, 2010 10:42:06 AM

Rough tutorial

I loved reading the Nancy Drew mysteries when I was growing. I just recently re-watched the recent movie with Emma Roberts. I didn't notice the bag the first time around (they only show a quick shot at the beginning of the movie). I couldn't find much about it online, so I paused the movie and took pictures with my camera. This is what I came up with. It was a lot of work and hard to figure out. I wish I could get a pattern, because I would do more if I could get the secret behind how to make it much easier. To make the bag stiff I used a double sided stiff fusible interfacing (that I got from my FAB swap partner, thanks eaon2002). The lining is a yellow "plaid" that I also got from her.  The outside is denim that I bought years ago at Walmart for $1 a yard. I bought the whole bolt - 20yds. Smiley

Front of the bag. Was too plain so I added fabric covered buttons and ribbon.

Side showing more buttons hiding the magnetic snaps.

Top of large "pocket"

Inside right showing some of the pockets - for drink mixes, business cards, note cards, tape measure, and tissue cozy.

Inside left showing pockets for cellphone, lotion, pens and pencils (they were supposed to be on the other side but I forgot about the flap and the pens are too high). I have an elastic for my hand sanitzer but it made the purse a little warped. It's not the regular ones everyone has, it's round.

Added outside pocket for my glasses.

Here is a picture of the inside of the bag from the movie.

15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Hello Kitty Messenger Bag on: January 23, 2010 01:54:13 PM
Who knew finding Hello Kitty fabric was so hard. I ordered some on ebay from a seller in Malaysia. Thought it was a great price. What's the saying, sounds too good to be true. Well never got the fabric, but he did refund my money. Then found another seller in the states, but was outbid. The winning bidder backed out and I was given the opportunity to buy it. yippee!! I was making this for a teacher friend of my sister-in-law and was getting a bit dissapointed that I couldn't get it to her by Christmas. But she was understandable and was happy it was ready for her daughter's b-day. So on to the pictures. Enjoy!!

17  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Black and white Messenger bag on: September 09, 2009 06:41:05 PM
Made this messenger bag for my 10 year old niece. She wanted something that no one at school already had. I had made one a couple of weeks ago that was too oversized (14"x16"x6"). She's short for her age. So I made this one. It's 14"x14"x4". When I started this one I noticed that I was low on the black print fabric. That's why the back is in stripes and I had to use the black and white stripes. Which I think makes it more interesting. Enjoy. C & C welcomed.

Here's my niece posing with the bag.

Front of bag with hand painted "C". My sewing/embroidery machine only makes letters 1 3/4" tall. This letter is 3" tall.

Bag with flap opened

I also made to elastic pockets on the side for a water bottle and such. And a "secret" pocket on the inside for her cellpohe

18  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Finally made a bag for myself (added wallet) on: July 03, 2009 07:07:45 PM
After months of making bags for friends and family, I actually made one for myself. The inspiration is the wisteria flower that blooms everywhere in Tallahassee, FL

Front of the bag, since I tend to be so nice I embroidered my name on it so I wouldn't be tempted to give it away.

Front flap opened to show two pockets and a zipper

Inside of purse with a zipper from side to side. Divides the bag into two sections.

Back of bag with a pocket

Inside with my stuff, will be making a wallet to match, the red doesnt' go very well.

took apart an old wallet to use as a pattern for my new one. Going to make another one when I get more fabric. First ones are always a test.

The fabric inside the pocket is the same fabric I used in my purse zippered sections.
