1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: So you want to learn how to sew on a machine? A beginners checklist on: October 06, 2009 05:58:02 PM
Just came across this as I was browsing around. This is going to be SO helpful, as I am thinking about getting into sewing and have been researching machines and all kinds of tips online for several days now. Thank you so much! I'm very much looking forward to expanding my crafty horizons.  Grin
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Stuck in a rut... (knitter's block) on: April 18, 2006 11:55:14 AM
Thanks guys!!! I feel better knowing that other people out there understand...  Smiley

I actually tried crocheting (bought "Happy Hooker" the week it came out!), and I got frustrated with the second row that same night. I give up too easily, methinks, lol. Maybe I'll try it again... we'll see.

Socks just scare me... I don't know what it is about them! I should ask my friend about that crazy magic loop thing she does to knit a pair at one time on one circ. That might ease my sock anxiety.

I just really like knitting up quick things, like hats. I think I might have knitting ADD or something, which probably doesn't help my knitter's block problem. I have a few UFOs and lots of yarn and lots of patterns... but no desire to do anything with any of them right now. Hopefully it's just a phase that'll pass very quickly!

Thanks again!

I've been slacking off terribly with the knitting, and I can't seem to find any new patterns that inspire me anymore. I don't want to give up knitting all together, but I can't seem to find awesome patterns like I used to...

... Am I the only one that goes through these periods of feeling like they've knit up all the really cool stuff, and all that's left is everything else? I just don't have the patience right now to pick up something new and difficult (like socks), but I find knitting up patterns again once I've made them kind of boring.

What's a gal to do?!  Cry
4  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Anyone want to make Knitty's Broadstreet Mittens with me? on: November 21, 2005 01:01:31 PM
I just started mine this weekend after failing to find anything similar for purchase anywhere (I recently lost a pair I had for two years... so sad).

After wrestling with the dpns for a while (not fun), I went online and found a video tutorial for the magic loop technique... soooo much easier!!! I would recommend at least trying it out before committing to dpns all the way.

I'm very anti-dpn, if you couldn't tell.  Grin

I'm using Jaegar Matchmaker Marino 4-ply yarn in black, and I've gotten about 2 inches done so far, which, in my slow hands, is a lot of knitting. So glad other people are making these!!!

5  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Liesel Lace Scarf on: November 07, 2005 08:58:13 AM
I'm so glad I stumbled into this knitalong! I just finished the "Branching Out" scarf (still have to post pics) and wanted to find a similar lace pattern to work on next. This is perfect. I am sooooo starting this tonight when I get home!!!  Grin

I love the colors you used for your bag, BeginnerKnitter!!! Awesome job!!!  Grin

And AnnaLou, that's a really smart idea about the drawstring lining for more security.. might have to try that out, if I ever finish my bag, lol.

Your bag is awesome!!! I love the modifications you made!

Can't wait to see what you'll do about those beaded handles.  Cheesy

Wow, you guys are so far ahead of me!!! I totally got sucked into Clapotis and a few other things and put the bag down for longer than I planned. I did, however, go to my LYS to see how much bamboo handles were... $15/pair is a bit pricey, but they look so pretty! So, I'm debating what to do while I knit up everything else.  Smiley

Can't wait to see pictures of your finished bags!!!
