so SO rad, all of these.  i just saw your godard one in another thread and the detail is amazing.

if you don't mind me asking, where do you get your sturdy lookin' frames pictured in your original post?  i have been looking for something nicer to put my finished projects in.
Thanks for your compliments. I get all my embroidery hoops from an ebay shop called "Maries Cross Stitch", I buy in bulk and get a pretty good price. I wish I knew where they get their stock from though, bet I could get them even cheaper  Wink

Wow! I am so impressed....you could do a whole series on new wavers!

This is a great looking piece and I love the freestyle background you did! It looks like he has swirls of ideas and creativity. It's just great.
Thanks, that is exactly what I had in mind so it is great to know that other people see it that way too  Smiley

So great!  I especially love his hair and glasses!!
Thanks! I couldn't decide how to do the glasses and ended up plumping for a fiddly, time consuming little satin stitch. At the time I kinda wished I'd just done it in a simple backstitch, but now that the project is finished I know it was the right stylistic choice, even if it was a PITA  Cheesy

I can't figure out how to quote multiple people in one post, so to keep it brief, thanks everyone for your comments!

THIS ROCKS!!!   I sooooooo love him! I just watched Alphaville like a day ago. Your stitching is marvelous and the subject is "breathless"

You should have joined the embroidery swap!
Thanks! I haven't watched Alphaville yet but I did recently finish A bout de souffle  Wink

A detailed hand-embroidered portrait of French director Jean-Luc Godard. For added texture his jumper has been filled in with chain stitch and split stitch in a variegated red floss. The background behind him is filled with a decorative freestyled design of swirls and spikes.

C&C very much welcome  Smiley

It feels nosy to ask but - were you wearing underwear? Or alternately: did you have anything other than the loincloth in place to conceal your booty? I can't see anything there but I find it hard to believe you could be that brave/body-confident...

Thanks guys, it's great to see that y'all like the concept. I was a bit afraid that people might just think I'm a huge ICP fan  Undecided

This is an original design based on the lyrics of the ICP (Insane Clown Posse) song "Miracles". It is stitched on ivory white cotton using black, grey and red floss.

To fully appreciate the sentiment of the design, you might want to read this amazing article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/oct/09/insane-clown-posse-christians-god. Then go watch the video for Miracles on YouTube, and after that the SNL parody too if you can find it. After all that you will definitely understand why I was inspired to make this embroidery  Wink

Thanks everyone  Smiley It's interesting to see that many of you single out the Andula embroidery. I will try to develop that style more in the future since it seems to be popular amongst y'all.

Thanks for all your comments, it's great to know that my Herzog is recognisable since that is one of the challenges I've had with portraits in the past. It's so great to get some feedback  Smiley
