21  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Growing your own dye plants on: March 31, 2007 12:41:13 PM
Has anyone tried this before? Aside from beets and onions. I wanted to look into growing indego for example. If you have tried it and have any suggestions / advice / resources I would greatly appreciate it. I'm in zone 7/8 btw.
22  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Night at the movies purse on: March 12, 2007 04:08:15 PM
Here is my Night at the Movies purse:

The clear pocket in the front is so you can change the "movie".
There is a pocket in the back under the "curtain" so you can smuggle candy into the theatre.

I took a regular box purse pattern with some modifications. I took the pattern piece and folded it down about two inches to cut a pocket and hemmed it with bias tape. For the curtains, if folded the tab up and cut two and then when seaming them, added in the "rope tie". I assembled the bag in the regular way and added the trim at the end.
Hope you enjoy!

26  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Science Surplus Swap? on: January 16, 2007 11:40:17 AM
I love Science Surplus - last night when I was marking up my latest catalog I got to thinking that a swap would be fun.
The minimum order is $10 - so for this swap I was thinking that you would get your partner - do a little post stalking - order some components to make a swap package and then have three weeks to craft. So it is kind like the dollar store swaps with a twist.
The only bummer is that I think it would only be open for US mainland folks since shipping is expensive otherwise.

Whatta ya think?
27  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Travel swap on: December 12, 2006 09:36:52 AM
I love to travel and it is nice to have little organizers and comfort items that make everything easier. How about a travel swap?
You could make something tailored for you partner's travel plans. For example, if they mostly do car trips with their kids - you could make a car game toy for the kids, a sanity kit for the parents, an emergency kit for the glove compartment etc.
If your person flys a lot - an eye mask, slippers, passport cover, tote bag.
If your person has special plans this year (like going to Viva Las Vegas) you could tailor their items for their plans / destination.
Or if you like to "arm chair" travel - we list our top 5 dream destinations and try to match people that have been there or live there. And they could make a recipe book of local food, craft something in the local style, make a guidebook so it would be just like you had been there!
So, lots of possibilities!
So it would be one large item and two small. 3 week crafting time.
I qualify to organize, but if anyone with more experience would like to please speak up!
28  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cherry pie cross-stitch from Bizzare Bazzar book on: November 21, 2006 02:38:40 PM
Hi,
I finally finished this project - now I just have to decide what I want to do with it because I don't really want a pillow.
Let me know if you have any ideas.
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Get ready for Viva Las Vegas10 swap on: October 17, 2006 01:44:03 PM
Anyone going to Viva Las Vegas? I go every other year and am glad that it seems to be relaxing from the early years where you felt like everything had to be "real" vintage to last time when there we tons of retro clothes vendors, more hand sewn clothes and fun jewlery etc.
How about a swap to get ready for the fun! Hair flower clips, clutch purses, bar kits for your room, bedazzled sunglasses, crochet snoods - the list can go on and on. One big item two small - the standard kind of thing.
I've only done 2 swaps here (others elsewhere) if any would like to organize I would be grateful or I can brave it and do it myself.
Maybe add a little bonus item swap at the event itself?
30  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / garden quote sampler on: June 29, 2006 12:21:21 PM
I participate heavily on another forum, we were joking around and one member made up this "law" then I thought it would look good on a sampler type cross stitch. I found a chart for a seed packet cross stitch and made up the lettering and spacing inside the frame. Sorry about the blueness of the photo - don't know what happened there.

It says: The germenation and subsequent mortality rate is inversely proportional to the amount of care given a seed. now you know.
