91  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Newbie has 3 questions relating to materials, new book, and tracing on: April 08, 2008 01:35:13 PM
Hi everyone!  I'm new and have a couple of questions:

1) I've read through a lot of posts and am amazed at all the creativity and excitement out there!  Most of the photos show embroidery done on traditional cloth tea towels, pillowcases, or napkins.  However, I saw a couple of posts where people have stitched on purses, wallets, etc...  Can I pretty much embroider on anything as long as my needle goes through the fabric easily?  I know I need to wash and dry anything I plan to stitch on in order to prevent my embroidery from being distorted if the fabric isn't preshrunk.  In regards to using fabric that isn't a cotton tea towel, pillow case, or napkin, how do I know when I need to use "stablizer" or not?  I'd like to try stitching on a cotton bag or what about a regular terry hand towel that I can pick up at Target?

2) Regarding Jenny's new stitch pad.  I was a thread and someone (forget the user's name, sorry) mentioned in passing that they didn't care for the paper that Jenny's new designs were on.  She said the paper was wanting to stick to her iron or something!  Has anyone else encountered this problem as well? I have Jenny's first 'stitch it' kit and have had NO problems using the iron ons.

3) Of course one day I'd like to design my own iron ons.  Anyone have any recommendations (besides the ones listed on Jenny's site) for iron transfer paper and transfer pens?  Good and bad feedback about iron on transfer paprs + pens you've used would be most helpful.

Thank you all in advance for your replies,
Bethie
