Class/Challenge : May Headmistress challenge
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Strawberry Shortcake Birthday cake
Project Description:  Unlike Harry, my nieces have had a birthday cake from me for every birthday they have ever had.  This was Miss M's first year to choose her own theme, which was strawberry shortcake, so I created all sorts of decorations because nothing could be found in town.  The "recipe" was more of a box, but I'll tell you what I did to achieve the look.

1 box Duncan Hines Chocolate cake mix
1 box Duncan Hines Strawberry cake mix
1 can Duncan Hines frosting base
1 packet Duncan Hines strawberry shortcake icing flavour packet
red food colouring
green icing
white icing
printable puppets from www.strawberryhshortcake.com - activities

1)create the puppets but glue them on to toothpicks instead of popsicle sticks
2) Mix chocolate cake and pour in greased spring form pan
3) Mix the the strawberry cake and pour into the middle of the chocolate cake mix.  Carefully spread the strawberry mix over the chocolate - but avoid mixing the two together
4) Bake until cake is ready, remove pan and put in fridge for 6-8 hours.
5) Melt the frosting so it is liquidy, add flavour packet and mix.  Pour 1/2 to 3/4 of container over cake, smoothing it out but ensuring the entire cake is coated.  Put in fridge so icing can harden
6) When the light pink icing has hardened, re-melt the can of frosting and add red food colouring to create a deep pink or red icing.  Using a silicone brush, paint on a strawberry shape.  Return to fridge for 1/2 hour or so.
7) Using green icing, creat strawberry top, using white icing, give the strawberry some 'seeds'. Also write "Happy Birthday" under the strawberry
Cool Add puppets and candles to top and have a great party

Class/challenge : April head mistress challenge
house : hufflepuff
project name : decorated gourd
Brief discription : I have had this gourd sitting around for at least 3 or 4 years to afraid to do anything with it for fear of ruining it.  I finally decided if it's not decorated by end of semester it's time to pass it on.  Well Ifinally sat down with some sharpies and let my mnd wander.  Thw upper bit reminded me of rain drops so i put tiny little rain drops all over it splasshing to a puddle that cascades over a variety of flowers.  It now reminds me of my favorite time of spring sjowers - the flowers in bloom amid the fresh green grass and thw fresh smell in the air.

House: hufflepuff
Spew : TOPS
brief discription: I created these 5 posters for our fall rally this year.  Turns out the hardest way to write is deliberately messy/child like.  But i like how they all turned out and they're much more fun and cost efficient than store bought posters.

OWL Subject & Option (if available): OWL exam - Study of Ancient Ruins
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: My "reason's to believe" dress and website, along with 3 other dresses.
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I ended up embroidering around 40 words on to my banner - all of the reasons can be found on our website.  Then I washed, dried, and ironed the banners flat before sewing them into a tube and adding a backing so the work is protected from behind and nobody can see the work on the back.  When that was done I added them to the dress.  Lastly I got silver ribbon to be the bow to add some shape to the dresses.  Each of the ladies embroidered their own banners, but I put all the dresses together.
Project Picture:
My dress

Mom's dress

The other 2 dresses are the same with light purple and bright purple fabric, but I haven't asked them if I can put their pictures up here, so until I have permission, you'll just have to imagine them.

To see more pics, and what the words represent you can visit www.topsjourney.webs.com, My Mom is Jackie, and I am Jennifer so you can find our individual information.

Challenge: Care of magical creatures
SPEW: n/a
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Fairy House
Brief Description: I'll be honest, the idea was not mine, but together my and I crafted this fairy house - if assignments must be completed solely by me, no worries I can do another project, but thought you might enjoy our fairy house anyways.

We went for a walk together and collected all sorts of natural items - rocks, sticks, bark, stones, etc.  Then we found a flower pot under the deck that me Dad said we could have.  She was shocked when her Grandpa (my Dad) told her she could dig some dirt out of his garden to fill the pot, then we built a home for visiting fairies, gave them a patio, a walkway, a future garden, and a "ladder" for injured fairies who may not be able to fly to the house.  -we won't have greenery for a few weeks yet, but I plan to add some glitter this week, not fairy home is complete without a bit of fairy dust right:)

I have thoroughly enjoyed having time this spring break, and the fact that this semesters prompts seem to fit so many of my "must be done by April 7th" projects:)

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Potions
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Mom's Silver Shoes
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: We have our dresses and clutch purses, so it was only fitting we needed some shoes.  I went to town on some of our old shoes with silver paint, glitter glue, shellac, and trim.  Wasn't sure what the final outcome would be, but I'm quite happy.  It took 4 coats of silver paint and 4 coats of glitter glue, to cover the black and get them nice and sparkly - each layer required a couple hours to dry before the next layer could be added.  Then I added trim around the top and finally shellacked them to ensure the glitter didn't flake off everywhere.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: IRD savings box
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: Now this is done to be permanent - for 3 years.  I recently found out that International Recognition Days will be in a place I really want to go to in 2018, and that means I need to start saving money.  Knowing myself, I always dip into savings when I'm short on funds, so this box has a permanent sticking charm, that I will have 3 years in which to learn the unsticking charm!  I first took all the hinges and fasteners off, then I wrote a letter to myself in 2018 and added a few "you did it" items. I glued the lid on with a regular glue stick.  Then I glued ribbon around the box to cover the seam of the glued down lid.  Then I Refastened the hinges and clasps.  When that was all dry I decorated the box using sharpie pens to write inspirational words and images.  This puppy has a serious case of permanent sticking charm on it!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Headmistress challenge - March
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Elephant on an egg
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I got this little elephant eraser somewhere, but he was WAY too cute to actually use.  While my niece and I were playing with him, we tried to balance him on a plastic egg - that was a fail, poor elephant wiped out and hit the floor, but after she left, I persevered, I flatted the side of an egg so it would sit on it's side.  Then with the elephant on it, it was cute, but rather bland, so I got out the paint and sharpies.  I painted the egg with a technique to look like grass, drew on the vines, painted a watering hole on top, but the egg still looked empty, so I added one of my favourite quotes that also represents balance "live, love; laugh".
