3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Help please! I'm clueless! Dyeing or painting silk to achieve ombre effect?I.H! on: September 14, 2008 01:09:34 PM
Just entered Year 11 GCSE Textiles with a plan for an amazing dress, but totally lost already! I would like to achieve an effect of two colours bleeding/going into each other, sort of like the photos below:

The question is...how do I do it? What sort of dyes will I need to buy? Should I paint it by hand? If I do paint by hand, how can I ensure the go into each other smoothly and not all blotchy? Sorry for all the questions, jesus I should have thought about this earlier!  Tongue Roll Eyes

My fabric is 100% silk dupion, currently white in colour. I hope that there will be no white on it in the end. I'd like the colours to be quite vivid, it'll be turquoise and purple. I can show sketches if that would help. I would ask my teacher but she offered as much help as...er...a pineapple!
