2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / DC number question? on: March 21, 2009 09:47:52 PM
I'm curious as to the reason/point of a DC number requirement.
I know at my post office there is a big pile of numbers you can just grab and take home...
I was recently in a swap where a person had 5 packages which dc numbers were never entered into the computer and never delivered. I assumed this person had just grabbed some DC numbers from the post office and never actually sent... Then A few weeks later I send out my packages for the charm swap and have 5 packages which dc numbers were never entered into the USPS database, and the packages never delivered. I'm convinced its the postal Gods punishing me for assuming the worst about another person (I'm sorry!  Sad)

This is not an issue because both of us have agreed to resend our items, but I'm just curious as to what good is a DC number versus saving the shipping receipt?

Details of swap:
Who doesn't love a good book? And who doesn't love getting a good book without paying the ridiculous prices they are sometimes? In this swap, we will be swapping a book that you think your partner will enjoy. And since it isn't a swap without some crafty goodness, we will be making some goodies to send along with the books. Swappers will be matched as best as possible by what kinds of books they want and what kind they have to give.

We will swapping one book, a short note explaining why you enjoyed the book, and two small crafted items. Crafty or non-crafty extras are optional: please discuss with your partner before including anything else! You can craft things to help your fellow reading addicts, like library tote bags or bookmarks, or your crafts can reflect your partner's favorite stories and authors (a knitted Emily Dickinson, or a Slytherin pendent). Used is definitely accepted as long as it's in a decent condition. Don't send a copy of a book that you wouldn't want to read yourself due to its conditions.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / A book and a craft swap -open! on: February 20, 2009 11:29:10 PM
THIS SWAP IS OPEN!!!! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=294808.0

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a craft and book swap.

This is how the idea is in my head (let me know if i make any sense!). You would craft two (or three?) small book related craft items such as a book mark and a hallowed out book to hide stuff in, or a tote bag for your library books and a coffee cup cozy. Along with that you would also send a book you liked to your partner.

I found a previous swap (actually there were several rounds, but only the most current gallery is filled with pictures, the older galleries are filled with broken links.) http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=224435.0 That swap preferred for tote bags to be sent, but this swap could be anything.

Id be happy to organize.

If you are interested let me know what sort of dates work for you.
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Help decorating for a 50th brithday party! on: February 10, 2009 09:42:34 PM
Im really hoping you guys can help me out. Ive done a few searches and Im not finding much inspiration. Maybe Im just really bad at searching? Anyway...

My mother is turning 50 in May and my family has decided to throw her a suprise party. Since my family is about as opposite of creative as possible Ive decided to take on decorating and cake duty.

The party will be around 100 people, so its a semi big room. Id like to have room decorations as well as nice centerpieces on each table.

For the cake I was thinking about this... http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=270205.0 but Im a bit worried people wont 'get' it and Ill spend all night explaining it.

My mom is going through some health issues right now so Id like to do my best to avoid the typical "youre old! and dying!" party themes.

Her favorite color is pink and she LOVES the wizard of oz.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
6  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Lots and lots of paints! and plastic bulb thingys? on: August 05, 2008 04:41:59 PM
I wasnt sure where to put this... So I suppose this is the correct spot.

HELP!!!!

My grandmother recently closed her ceramic studio and decided since Im mildly crafty she would give me all the paints. So I now have over 500 paints in various colors as well as glazes, color wash, and antiquing paint.

She also gave me hundred of tiny plastic things people would put into christmas trees... oh let me see if i can find a link so I make sense....
http://www.dogwoodceramics.com/images/bulb%20colors.jpg
I have Bulbs, butterflies, birds, ect.

I usually craft with polymer clay, I can cross stitch, crochet, knit, and thats about it.

I was wondering if any of you craftsters have any ideas for things I could do using the paint (besides paint a picture) as well as anything using the bulb thingys.

Thanks!
