11  Crafting my Sister's wedding in Weddings and Bridal Showers by yarnorama on: July 05, 2010 09:28:37 AM
My sister is having a small Summer wedding on an even smaller budget; she asked for some help so I had to get crafty. Here's what I've made so far:

Floral cake topper:

Flower girl hair band:

Bridesmaid flower clips:

They're just silk flowers attached to hair slides with super glue.

Flower girl pomanders:

Veil: (I pictured it at a funny angle, but it is symmetrical, I promise!)

Here is the tutorial I used to make it:

Please let me know what you think. (: Thanks for looking!

12  Re: Make-a-Friend Round 6 -- Summer 2010 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by yarnorama on: June 13, 2010 12:25:52 PM
I received from my lovely friend when_im_sixty4! Cheesy It was a delightful surprise when I get home after only getting 4 hours sleep last night. Thank you so much, when_im_sixty4; everything is fantastic and showed me just how much we have in common! On to the pictures (/descriptions).

1. Stickers! when_im_sixty4 loved stickers as a child and still does (as do I!). There are some really cute kitty stickers and squishy ones too. (:

2. Something to do with yarn - yarn! It's a lovely dark pink with rainbow bits. I'm full of ideas of what to make with it. I'm thinking, possibly, a flower corsage for my winter coat.

3. Candy. Cheesy Check out the flavours: cheese cake, tiramisu, apple pie and mango pudding! Delicious.

4. Hello Kitty band-aids because my partner loves cartoon characters (and Sanrio in particular) as do I!

5. Teal argyle socks! - when_im_sixty4's favourite colour and print. They're so soft. Cheesy

6. A stained glass window book! I love it. My sister loves one of the designs and has asked me to trace it onto glasses for her wedding. Cheesy

7. A bookmark, because when_im_sixty4 and I both love to read. It has a quote which reads "a good book never ends" (too true) and represents her non-crafting hobby.

8. A lovely journal because when_im_sixty4 loves to make lists to help her keep organised. I also love to make lists and green is my favourite colour! Cheesy

9. when_im_sixty4's favourite scent - peppermint. Literally can't stop smelling it! Sooooooooooo good. My partner also scent (haha) me a honey suckle scented candle as it reminds her of her childhood home. Such a sweet gesture!

10. Berry lipbalm - my favourite ever scent and something always in her bag to help when_im_sixty4 in the hot, Texan summer (jealous...)

11. when_im_sixty4's favourite band and one of my favourites too (well, I am British) THE BEATLES.

12. when_im_sixty4's kitchen essential - cute recipe cards! I'm going to use these next year, I love cooking.

13. when_im_sixty4, her friends and relatives all love to play games - she sent me the Monty Python Fluxx game to represent this! I can't wait to try it out. (So excited about this).

14/15. A Texas shot glass!!!!!! and the lovely candle I mentioned earlier. My friends at university and I like to collect cool shot glasses so this will be a welcome addition! when_im_sixty4 also sent me a recipe for a "chocolate cake shot". I cannot wait to try it out.

16. Something to represent my partner's favourite holiday - Halloween. when_im_sixty4 made me two squishy skulls in fab Halloween colours to help me decorate! I'm going to use them all year, though. Tongue

Now here's some close-up's of my favourite things:

Texas shot glass!

A beautiful owl pendant to represent when_im_sixty4's favourite animal (and mine, too!) I love it and I've not taken it off all day.

A turtle charm for my birthday. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy when_im_sixty4 is so sweet and kind!

Sorry about the bad pictures, I'll try and get some better ones. My hands are really shaky and I accidentally left my camera at uni. Sad

Thank you so much, when_im_sixty4 - I love everything. This is the best package I've ever received. (: (: (:

16  Easy Spinach and Mushroom Pasta w/ Garlic Sauce (+ recipe) in Recipes and Cooking Tips by yarnorama on: April 25, 2010 10:00:00 AM
Bonjour

I just cooked this up and thought it was worth a mention since it contains my favourite super food: spinach!

Recipe

1. Make a white sauce using garlic butter or make a white sauce with regular butter/margarine and then add fresh garlic/garlic salt to the sauce.
2. Add black pepper to taste.
3. Pan fry some mushrooms and wilt some spinach in the pan for a few minutes.
3. Boil some pasta, drain and add to the sauce.
4. Stir the spinach and mushrooms into the pasta and sauce mixture.
5. Heat through and serve.

- This is also really good with pancetta!

Not bad for student food, eh? C&C's welcome.  Grin

Glad you liked everything, holistic knitter. It was hard to let the wind chime go. I liked it a lot when I'd made it. I'm going to make another one in the summer for my Mum. Here are some more pictures I took on my webcam:

18  Mini 'Craft for someone I <3' swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by yarnorama on: March 21, 2010 06:18:02 AM

I was thinking that it would be nice to do a swap dedicated to those who love us crafters! Cheesy It could be Mum, Dad, Husband, Wife, Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Grandparents, children, friends or even pets. Whoever you love! - All you have to do is state on the questionnaire who you would like your partner to swap for and then answer questions based on their faves. (:

I've seen some swaps like this on Craftster before, but they were quite big. I hope this can be simple and stress free. Cheesy

As for sizes, I was thinking 2-3 smalls with a 2 week turn around?

What do you think? Cheesy

19  Arghhhh, Cap'n! - Pirate Ship Cake in Dessert by yarnorama on: March 20, 2010 06:27:09 AM
Hello Craftsters!

For my nephew Louis' 5th Birthday party, me and my Mum were asked to make him a pirate ship cake. He's obsessed with pirates and the theme of the party was 'Pirates & Princesses'. If you look closely, you'll be able to spot the cannon balls and barrels on deck. Cheesy

Details:

- Cake: Victoria sponge with raspberry jam and chocolate frosting.
- Sails: Made with 'net images and (pre-sterilised) knitting needles.
- Flag: Image attached to cocktail stick/tooth pick.
- Guns: Birthday candles!

Construction:

1) Bake the mix of your choice in 2 loaf tins.
2) Cut the edges off one of the cake loaves and position the main part onto your tray/base.
3) Get the other loaf and cut out two cake 'blocks'. One needs to be positioned at the back of the main boat base you just positioned on your tray.
4) Position the other cake block at the front, cutting offthe two front corners to produce a rounded edge at the front of the ship.
5) Now you should have a basic boat shape, with a sunken 'deck' in the middle.
6) Stick all of your components together with raspberry or apricot jam.
7) Cover the whole boat with chocolate butter cream.
8 ) Eat leftover butter cream.
9) For the cannon balls, I used 'malted milk balls'/Maltesers and for the barrels, I stuck two Rolo's together.
10) Use whatever candy/sweets you like to decorate. I used liquorice for the yellow peep holes on the sides and chocolate toffee for around the deck. I then added birthday candles at the sides to look like guns, but you can go crazy and add whatever you like! Cheesy
11) Finish off with pirate figures and sails. I constructed different square 'sails' of varying patterns with images from the internet and then threaded them (so they were curved) onto the knitting needles and then popped them in the cake.

Thanks for looking Cheesy C&C's welcome. (I also have more pics/instructions if anyone needs them.)
