I already posted pics of what Elizabethsmom sent me, but what I haven't posted is pics of the bag I made. I was cleaning up my craft space before I left for a flight and decided to take a closer look at the fabric she sent me. I hadn't realized she already pre-cut all the pieces for me! So.. I had to start right then and there, flight be damned!
I got all the sides sewed and ironed before I had to put it aside and leave for my trip, but I finished it as soon as I got back into town. I've been using is as my work/bare essentials bag since before I even put the final stitch in it. I LOVE it!!
I made the inner liner so that it'd be my laptop's home and it fits PERFECTLY. If my laptop was half an inch larger, it wouldn't work at all.
It fits my laptop, sketch book, notepad, charger, camera, wallet and phone perfectly. I can't squeeze anything else in, and that's exactly how I want it! I've gotten lots of comments on the fabric and the bag itself, as well as requests! I've been debating putting some sort of outside zipper pocket on the front or side for my phone, but not sure... it'd be a tight fit by the strap. Look! I even made the strap!
I've never been so proud of something I've sewn before, and it's all thanks to Elizabethsmom! Thank you thank you! I messed up a lot.. and its far from perfect.. but for my first real venture into sewing 3D objects I think I rocked it!!
I made a "How to Crochet" package for my partner over in the DIY Craft Kit swap, which included a tutorial and a pattern made just for her. She's very into nature and natural colors, so I decided to make her pattern, and the package as a whole, very nature themed.
The tutorial I wrote up that teaches her how to crochet is available over on my blog: Crochet Tutorial. Feel free to head over there and start hooking today!
So I'm posting this hoping my swap party doesn't surf the knitting thread... I think she doesn't, cause the swap package I'm sending her teaches her how to knit, heh. But anyway, the small project I came up for her to knit is a pocket to store coins, knitting accessories and whatever else you can think of.
It's knit flat, using all the basic stitches you need as a knitter, making it a fantastic project for beginners. - Cast on - Knit stitch - Purl stitch - Decrease - K2tog - Decrease - ssk - Increase - m1 - Cast off
I think it's really great for beginners because you get to use all the main stitches and your final product is no not a scarf or dishcloth. That was one of the things that really drove me nuts when I was first learning how to knit, all the beginner patterns were just boring.. and took forever. This pocket takes experienced knitters about an hour, and beginners maybe 2. Perfect instant gratification!
All my patterns are available under Ravelry (which I highly recommend!), or you can find this one directly at A Knitted Pocket (my blog).
If you're interested in learning how to crochet while you're over there, I've posted a tutorial on how to crochet, available on the right hand side.
I received my sewing kit from Elizabethsmom! She pegged me right on as far as colors and textures go.
She included everything I need to make a new messenger bag/laptop bag!! Big pile of fabric, elastic, belt clip, and the thread! Instructions and a CD (which contains I dunno what, yet). The orange material she sent me is suuuuuuuuper soft, too! I think I'm going to make it the liner and really spoil my laptop, heh.
The little bag she made me is also fantastic!
The quality is amazing. It's super sturdy and just plain adorable. The inside is even lined, with a divider too!
She made it thinking it'd be a good bag for when I walk my dog, but I dunno... I wanna use it all the time, heh. It is definitely going to be well loved.
Okay.. so I know I said I wouldn't open any kits I received until I sent mine out... but I sent out 1 kit already, so that means I get to open 1, right? I thought so.
Troublet sent me a yummy preserves kit!
She sent me a tool kit for filling & handling the jars, a box of lids with bands, fruit pectin, new spoons for mixing it all, and a bunch of recipes with notes! Oh oh oh! And she sent me two jars of preserves she made!!
I'm hiding these from my roommates and making fresh biscuits this weekend.. hehehe.
Im happily crafting away. A wee bit slower now as I have whiplash (possibly wrote my car off yesterday) but thats ok, cos Ive been given time off work to recover and nothing soothes the body like crafting The worst thing is that my project was in my work bag in the car when my airbags went off, Im going to have to carefully wash it to get the smell out oh and I only fueled up yesterday
That sucks!!! I hope you're feeling okay.. whiplash can really mess ya up. Bummer about the gas and car.. how sad is it that with gas prices the way they are, having just filled up is something to be extra annoyed about when you get in an accident? Lol.
I'm alive! (barely) I've missed 2 and a half days of work this week, so my coworker/friend did me a favor and brought me to work with him today (I can't really drive). It's all good, though, as my job consists of me sitting in a comfy chair and typing all day.
So signups have definitely slowed down and I'm wondering if we need a co-organizer at all anymore. I've got two questionnaires sitting in my inbox that I'm going to put in today, but otherwise I think I'm going to close this bugger at 25.
To encourage sign-ups, Ichi is willing to make an appearance in her diaper.
