1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Discussion and Questions / Glass transfer? on: April 04, 2008 11:07:26 AM
I'm not totally sure what exactly I'm even asking for, but I keep seeing these vases in stores that have these color images sort of pressed onto them. The image is pretty set on, as if it was transfered with glass paint or something, like - it cant be scratched off (not that I tried to scratch it off... just investigating).

Here is one example of what I'm talking about, the designs are different all around the vase... but it doesnt have to be that way, its just in this one...

any ideas?
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Help with Special Education program crafts on: July 06, 2007 04:39:59 PM
Hiya!

I'm teaching art for the special ed program run in my school district this summer and I was looking for some cool ideas. I'm open to all ideas, I have some of my own, but I love a good brainstorming session...

the students range in age from kindergarten all the way through high school. They will be separated into aproximate age groups and I will have 6-8 students per class.

So far I'm thinking (using whats appropriate for each age group, of course):
shaving cream painting
air-dry clay magnets
pendant necklaces
mosaic tile projects
decorating picture frames
decorating terra cotta flower pots (and planting a flower in them)
tissue paper covered pencil holders

Anything else?
-thanks!!
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Can someone tell me what this is?! Romanesco broccoflower! on: November 29, 2006 08:37:11 PM
I bought this CRAZY lookin vegetable at the Union Square farmers market this morning but I cannot remember the name of it and its driving me insane. Its supposed to taste like a cross between a broccoli and a cauliflower - but it looks NUTS! my husband and I keep grabbing it out of the fridge for a good laugh.

Does anyone know what this is?!?!

4  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / Garlic Festival or Seacliff Mini-market on LI? on: September 30, 2006 07:38:23 AM

Has anyone ever been to either of these events that are going on this weekend (9/30-10/1)? Does anyone have tables at either fair?
5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Can i make it look like marble? on: July 28, 2006 05:57:51 AM
Hello!

I am a beginner and just bought some translucent sculpey and some colored sculpey. Is there a technique that I can use to swirl the colored sculpey into the translucent to make it look like marble?

Thanks!!
6  COOKING / Dessert / ADULT CONTENT:: Nookie Cookies (boobs) on: April 11, 2006 04:04:35 AM
My fiance went to Atlantic City this past weekend for his Bachelor party, and I couldnt help sending him along with a tasty snack for the road. I'm a sucker for themes, and, well, whats more appropriate for a bachelor party!?

I have to say, it was so much fun making these!!
7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Dark/Light Brown Sugar? on: December 28, 2005 04:31:03 PM
Ok, I hope this hasnt been posted before, but is there any real difference between dark and light brown sugar? If a recipe calls for one but I only have the other, can I use it? How will it effect the final recipe?

thanks!!
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Check out my Save the Date "photo booth" pics on: December 06, 2005 06:16:16 PM
This was by no means an original idea... but im really proud of how I made them. They were almost entirely done in photoshop. My fiance and I were no where near a photo booth when we took these - with a disposable camera, and we were standing about three feet apart from eachother in each pic (except for the one where we're kissing behind the paper). Also, I scanned in all of the text, there was nothing on the pieces of paper we were holding.

What do you think? Oh - and also, has anyone used Vistaprint? I'm thinking of having these printed on 4x8 paper...
9  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Calling All **GOOD** cooks!! on: November 18, 2005 05:39:15 AM
Hi guys!

So every year my mother and I compete against eachother on thanksgiving dinner (the actual name for our little shindig is: The Autumn Extravaganza: Third Annual Chefs Compete Competition - sounds fancy, right?!). The contest isnt on the entire meal, my grandmother makes the turkey and my mom and I compete in 3 categories: Appetizer, side dish and dessert. There are score cards and a trophy - the whole 9 yards. and we take it VERY seriously Smiley

Anyway - Ive been so swamped with work and grad school and planning my wedding that i havent been able to find a kick-ass appetizer recipe. I have a good side dish and dessert, so I was wondering if anyone has any amazing, impressive, to die for appetizers...?

Please please send them my way!!! (p.s. If i win, i promise to make mention of anyone who assisted me in my winners speech)
thanks!!

In case anyone's wondering, my side dish will be my own variation on these autumn leaf shaped pockets filled with roasted root vegetables http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4188/380/1600/IMG_6910.jpg  and my dessert will be Maple Walnut cupcakes with a ginger cream cheese frosting.
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Baby poem on: October 15, 2005 01:26:45 PM
I was in my mothers basement the other day and saw this old framed embroidery thing that either she made when I was born, or someone made for her and though the poem on it was so nice. I thought I'd share it in case anyone ever wanted to use it - I dont know who the author was...

Cooking and cleaning can wait till tomorrow, for babies grow up weve learned to our sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep, Im rocking my baby and babies dont keep.

enjoy!
