21  Re: All Year Christmas Craft-a-long 2008 in Craftalongs by stoliedina on: December 22, 2008 04:43:49 AM
Here's another finished object:

This is a present for my 3 year old nephew. It's a play crown!

It's elasticized in the back:

I've made these for little girls before, but this is my first for a boy, and I'm kinda in love with the boy-ish color scheme Smiley

Is it a little sick that Christmas isn't even here yet, and I'm thinking about how I'm going to host things for next year? Tongue

Wow - you made so many crayon rolls! I've never given them myself, but I think they are SUCH a cute gift.

I've been busy too - finishing up the visor cd case for my dad, working on a pillow for my sister with photo fabric sheets printed with images of her dogs, helping my friends make a batch of limoncello for their gifts and putting together packages of baked oatmeal.

The baked oatmeal kit is a great last minute gift - if you're interested, here's what you do:

Put all of the dry ingredients from the following recipe into a cute bag. Print out a recipe card and tuck it inside. That's it!

Baked Oatmeal Recipe - from the kitchen of (insert your name here)
Included in mix:

2 c quick oats
1/3 c brown sugar
1/3 c. raisins
2 T chopped walnuts
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t ground ginger
1 pinch of nutmeg
1 t baking powder

You provide:

1 1/2 c skim milk
1 apple, grated
2 T butter, melted
1 large egg, beaten
1 t vanilla

1. Mix the first 8 ingredients into a medium sized bowl.

2. In another bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. Pour wet ingredients
into dry ingredients and mix well.

3. Pour into square baking pan and bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Serve
with a large dollop of yogurt.

This is one of my favorite winter breakfasts and I think it makes a fast, but thoughtful present. Enjoy!

I finished my Toasties!

I hope that my niece loves these as much as I do. This was a really fast knit, and those size sevens felt like knitting with flagpoles after knitting on 0's for so long!

A tiny bit off topic, I'm doing fun little posts for Advent every day on my blog. The link is in my signature if anyone wants to pay a visit.

Anybody out there still playing along? I hope the thread is quiet because you're all working so hard on your prezzies Smiley

Here are the sock pictures - I'm so pumped about how these came out!

Close-ups -

Christephi - that's really cool about the lanterns. I'm always interested to learn how different cultures celebrate similar holidays.

Right now I'm working on ornaments for an international ornament swap - I'm so feeling the crunch this year, ahhh!

Thanks for the well wishes every body - boy do I need them!

Hearton - I really like the color of that scarf. I can't wait to see the second draft!

Here's a crappy pic of what I'm working on:

It's the Tubey socks from Son of a Stitch n' Bitch. My husband is a plain white socks kind of guy - but he wears through his store bought ones like crazy. My intention was to give him three pairs of homemade socks that I could mend, but WHEW these are fine gauge! It's taken me a week of knitting every spare second to get to the heel flap (7.5 inches of knitting). I love how they look though - the fine gauge is pretty!

Okay Christmas Craft-a-longers, here's what I've got!

This was actually a birthday present for my nephew, that I just put together, but I thought that the idea might be pertinent here as a prezzy idea.

The Dinosaur Terrarium Kit:

I was inspired by the gnome one here: http://thompsonfamily.typepad.com/thompson_familylife/2008/05/terrariums.html?cid=115934094#comments

And a finished prezzy for my going greener every day brother...

Re-usable shopping bags (up-cycled from his own old t-shirts!)

I wrote more on the terrariums here: http://www.geekxnerd.com/2008/07/rawrrr.html and the bags here: http://www.geekxnerd.com/2008/07/thom-this-is-christmas-spoiler-do-not.html if anyone cares to read a little more in depth.

I've made a healthy dent in my list so far, I'm kinda psyched!

Starting in on baby gifts. Lots of babies this year - two newborns to be and one nephew that will be 1 1/2 by Christmas time. They're all getting a version of these:

Pattern in Last Minute Fabric Gifts - excellent book, I highly recommend Last Minute Patchwork Gifts and Knitted Gifts as well.

Two more bears to follow!

Hey all - just checking in - I just finished my mum's Christmas present:

It's to hold miscellaneous sewing goodies:

EDIT: Whoops I forgot to add that you can find the tutorial for this here: http://mackvilleroad.blogspot.com/2008/04/sewing-bag-tutorial.html

My fave part is the little wool felt needle booklet

More details on my blog here:http://www.geekxnerd.com/2008/05/christmas-spoiler-mom-do-not-read-this.html

How is everyone else doing?
