1  Holiday Handmade Crusade 2011 :: ONGOING in Craftalongs by stoliedina on: January 02, 2011 10:11:32 AM
Geek+Nerd's January Theme for Holiday Handmade Crusade is "All the Small Things": I think when starting a year-long, post-holiday crafting adventure, that it is important to start small. Think ornaments, Christmas cards, gift tags, stocking stuffers, Advent calendar prezzies, etc. Set a small crafting goal, and be proud once you finish it!

January interview is here: http://blog.geekxnerd.com/2011/01/hhc-january-theme-gingerbread.html

Now that the Christmas season is drawing to a close, I bet that the first thing on your list, to ring in the New Year, is to start your holiday crafting for 2011!

Wait, is that just me?!

Seriously though, think of how calm and collected your holidays would be if you did a little bit of prep at a time over the next twelve months. Just mull on that a little. Are we good now? Do I seem less crazy? (Don't answer that). Are you ready to embark on a Holiday Handmade Crusade with me? Here's what you need to know:

First of all, a history of Holiday Handmade Crusade/a crafty manifesto: http://blog.geekxnerd.com/p/holiday-handmade-crusade.html

Second, some changes to Holiday Handmade Crusade for 2011...

Ch-ch-ch-CHANGES - Guest Bloggers

As many of you know, HHC is a complete labor of love. In the past, it has consumed lots of creativity and time. Last year, this consumption reached a bit of a breaking point, and that pesky little thing "real life" got in the way of my HHC ambitions. Damn.

So, this year I am reaching out to crafty friends and family to lend their creativity on my blog, Geek+Nerd: http://www.geekxnerd.com Guest bloggers will post four Mondays out of each month...

Post 1: Will introduce the monthly HHC theme, and feature an interview introducing the guest blogger.

Post 2 and 3: Will be wild cards! These posts could be tutorials, recipes, favorite holiday music mixes, stories of holiday memories, the possibilities are endless!

Post 4: Will be the guest blogger's sign off, and announcement of the HHC raffle prize of the month.

What does this change mean for my HHCer's on Craftster? Well, it is very important to me that HHC retains a connection to Craftster since, it all began here. However, I do want to see the Crusade grow and spread across the interwebs. So I will continue to cross-post the monthly themes HERE. However, if you are interested in all of the extra HHC content, you will have to visit outside of Craftster.

How the Holiday Handmade Crusade Works

1. Craft at least one gift each month. You may choose the follow the suggested theme, or ignore it completely, as long as you craft.

2. Post a picture of that item on this thread.

3. Comment on Post #4 each month linking to the picture of your gift for...

BONUS ENTRIES: Spread the crafty gospel! New this year, I will accept bonus entries. If you blog, upload to Flickr, tweet on Twitter or update your Facebook status linking to your Holiday Handmade Crusade finished item, I will accept each of those as an entry. You must link to each of those updates in a separate comment, meaning you can comment/enter the raffle a MAXIMUM of 4 times each month.

4. I will choose a raffle winner the last day of each month. Prizes=INCENTIVE to craft early!

What does this change mean for my HHCer's on Craftster? Your posts here will continue to be counted as raffle entries. However if you would like to submit up to 3 bonus entries by blogging, tweeting, Facebooking, etc, you must submit those as a comment on Post #4 each month. This will cut down the time that I am combing through the HHC thread looking for entries.

I will be kicking off the festivities in January! I will be posting the theme (here) and interview (conducted by a special guest blogger) (on the blog)later today.

I hope that you will join me for the Holiday Handmade Crusade 2011!

Okay peeps - I've got the fever now!

I made two more nature cans for my nephews. I am going to make one more for my little niece. Four total, all for kids under the age of 10.

Yeah! Two more gifts down!

Grin Hi Every one! I'm alive!  Grin

Here are those socks I alluded to many moons ago. These are for my sister-in-law:

The pattern is called the "Dublin Bay Sock Pattern." You can find it by Googling or alternatively on Ravelry.

I've got another pair on the needles for another sister-in-law at the moment.

Best thing? These projects are complete stash busters - no new dinero spent. YAY.

P.S. Christmas is only 110 days away! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I'm so behind! Looking forward to posting around here more often...I must catch up!

Hey Crusaders...just checking in Smiley

I think I'm going to make these cute headbands for my two teeny bopper nieces. I followed this tutorial here: http://racheldenbow.blogspot.com/2009/11/braided-headband-tutorial.html. This is a tester, I would just suggest measuring each step of the way. I think that my braids came out shorter than the ones in the tutorial, and the finished product is kind of squeezing the life out of my head! HA! Ah well, live and learn Smiley

I'm trying actively make my list of projects, and I came across a GREAT thread here on Craftster about "production line" gifts. Follow this link for a great resource: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=131703.0

Hope you all are well!

Hello my crusaders...

So I have been failing as a crafty leader. Getting so so sick at the end of 2009 definitely put a damper on my Christmas 2010 enthusiasm, and my mojo to keep this board pumped up. I'm sorry! I do not want the Holiday Handmade Crusade to end, as I had such fun last year, but I think 2010 is going to be a little more low key, if that's cool? I do have big dreams to make HHC bigger and better, but that requires a little planning...

I'm checking in to say - that in May - the latest I've started my gifts in YEARS - that I've made part of my list, and I've started a gift. Hopefully I'll get my mojo back.

Hello every one! I've been doing a little crafting with technology. I wasn't able to finish my own theme back in March of "Making Memories" and I'm trying to complete the project in time for Christmas. I finally finished formatting family photos for a memory game following directions from Alicia Paulson's book, Stitched in Time. Here is an example of a finished set from the Stitched in Time Flickr Group: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92535563@N00/3534655399/in/pool-stitchedintimebook My nieces and nephews on the hubby's side of the family all live very far away from us. We only see each other about once a year, twice if we're lucky. So, I thought it would be nice for two of the little ones in the family to have a memory game set with all of our family members in it, so that our faces remain familiar, even though we do not see each other too often. I typed our names into each photo too, since they are each probably learning to read.

Once the photos were edited, I had to put all of them into one document, with specific spacing to create a border. Not gonna lie, it made my brain hurt a bit. Formatting is not my friend! But thank goodness the hard part is over and done with! Now I just have to buy a new ink cartridge so that I can actually print the photos out!  Grin

I have some Christmas crafting to show! This is totally a year of knitted gifts for me...

My brother requested a new hat for my baby nephew Aaron. The requirements were blue...and earflaps. This is what I came up with:

I am obsessed with how cute the pom-pom came out!
