11  Pink Floyd Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hltrskltr on: August 06, 2008 03:03:33 PM
so, I had this Pink Floyd T shirt that I LOOOVED, but it was really big, so...a couple hours of cutting and sewing, and...

excuse the weird face...

the pink fabric is from a shirt from my aunt

back: sorry, I'm standing kind of weird in this picture:

this was my first time doing raglan sleeves, so I'm pretty happy with the outcome...
anyway, tell me what you think!

12  ugly skirt realizes its true potential in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hltrskltr on: July 31, 2008 08:54:07 AM
So someone gave me this skirt...and it was absolutely hideous:

sorry for the crappy mirror pic..but you get the idea...
Anyway...it had all these awesome buttons down the front..so....it becomes a dress! yay:

back:

umm...this picture was before I sewed on the straps, so that pink ribbon doesn't actually hang down there anymore...just so you know =)

close up:

and close up(ish) of the strap...sorry the flash kind of messed it up...but, yeah:

and...this is from before I sewed on the pink straps...I pinned it with lace instead of the pink ribbon stuff...what do you think? Should I have left it with the lace? Or is the pink better?

haha yes, I do put jewelry on my dress form =)

anyway...tell me what you think...=)

13  Re: decoupaged collage shoes! in Shoes: Completed Projects by Hltrskltr on: July 29, 2008 10:09:09 AM
Pretty! Let us know how they hold up - I'm interested in doing decoupage to a pair of ballet flats and would love to see how yours hold up. Smiley

So far I've worn them a couple times and they've held up fine, with small amounts of cracking and peeling near the bottom, but not a lot...I'd love to see yours when you finish!

Very Nice!!   How do the heels look?  Did you just cut varied photos, etc from magazines?  Would love to try this.  Have 9 Wide shoes, and they don't come in a lot of pretty styles.  This would be fun.  Thanks for sharing.

here's a picture of one of the heels...the glue isn't quite dry, it doesn't look all white and gross now =)
yeah, I just cut random pictures from magazines...I ended up doing about 4 layers of glue and pictures before everything was covered.

I have the opposite problem as you, my feet are tiny! Also can't find a lot of styles =)

anyway, thanks everyone!!!

14  shoes. with WORDS on them! (image plump ;D) in Shoes: Completed Projects by Hltrskltr on: July 27, 2008 01:28:00 PM
yeah, so I went through all my old Rolling Stone and Saveur magazines and cut out words and phrases that I liked...then glued them on to these shoes and sprayed them with varnish stuff...anyway...I like them, but they don't fit me...I'm considering selling them...anyway...here are the pics:
before:

after:

AND...I cut and pasted my business name inside each shoe:

so...I'm very happy with them, but not sure if they need more words and things...anyway, tell me what you think, I LOVE comments!

15  decoupaged collage shoes! in Shoes: Completed Projects by Hltrskltr on: July 27, 2008 11:23:44 AM
OK, so I know this has been done before, but...I'm still really really excited!
Here's the shoes before:

and after! yay (they're just covered with pictures from magazines):

I just used Elmer's Glue (because I'm lazy) and then sprayed them with varnish so they won't fall apart...
what do you think? I wore them out once (in the rain...) but no major damage...so, I'm happy.
comments would be very very much appreciated

16  Obamamania!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hltrskltr on: July 21, 2008 11:43:07 AM
So, I discovered this AWESOME thrift store! Of course, it has the weirdest hours...but anyway, their shirts are 25 CENTS EACH!!!! and they're not even crappy. they're actually NICE.
Soooo....I bought a LOT of plain shirts and made some Obama shirts! YAY!
I painted them with fabric paint and acrylic...and ok, this isn't technically a recon because I didn't sew...but I probably will add embellishments or something when my sewing machines are fixed (yes, BOTH are broken   Cry)
ANYway...pics!
This one is a little kid shirt...like a kid's medium or something:

and the back:

hanging:

this one is a women's small:

The words are supposed to be crooked...I like them like that, but I'm worried that they look like I just can't write straight...what do you think?

anyway, here's the back:

and here they are hanging next to each other:

and this one is a women's large:
it says "Barack around the clock"

close up of the detail:

and the back (it says "Obama '08 Change you can believe in"):

so what do y'all think?
I'm thinking of selling them at the farmer's market, but...I don't know...anyway...tell me if you like them. or if you hate them. either way =)

17  Let it be (my obsession. part two) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hltrskltr on: July 20, 2008 01:09:26 PM
So, two of my friends have birthdays like a week apart...and because all of us are obsessed with Across the Universe (and the Beatles-we used to be in a Beatles cover band...not such a success Smiley)
ANYway...it was my friend Brigid's birthday on Friday, so I decided to stick to the Beatles theme and I did a Let it Be shirt...this one was done in much more of a hurry than the Strawberry Fields Forever shirt, so...no embroidery on this one...the purple paint is fabric paint and the black paint is acrylic...and the giant black music note is T shirt fabric...I messed up on the paint of the word "when," and then I had to cover it up...but I actually kind of like it this way...
On to the pics!
Oh by the way, I got the red shirt at the thrift store for 25 cents!!! =)

the front says "...and when all the brokenhearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer..."
and the back says:

close up of the front:

Even though it's insanely hot out, I made it a long sleeved shirt because here in Northern NY, it's winter for like 6 months out of the year...so. ultimately, she'll wear it more.
She wore it for a few minutes on her birthday (not for long-it was like 90 degrees and really humid) but I forgot to take pictures...anyway, she liked it. yay!
so...do you like it? do tell =)

My aunt gave me these two tank tops...one black and one white. They were exactly the same and of course I forgot to take before pics, but I drew a picture of (basically) what they looked like:

AND....now they are a skirt!!!!!:

white side tie thing:

and black side tie thing:

and on my new dress form (YAY!):

and a bonus, my new hair color (Deadly nightshade Smiley) just because I'm excited and want to show people:

anyway, tell me what you think of the skirt! Thanks

19  Shorts and two shirts combine to make my new miniskirt! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hltrskltr on: July 13, 2008 01:17:57 PM
OK, so my aunt gave me two huge bags of clothes, and I took a pair of reeeallly soft redish-pink running shorts and a plain white T-shirt and a blue floral print babydoll top and combined them to make a miniskirt:

here's a close up:

so...yeah, it's kind of a variation on this http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=256710.0
which I made with a friend's daughter...mine's just shorter and with three layers =)
anyway, tell me what you think of it!!

20  Strawberry Fields Forever!!!!! (aka my obsession continues...) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Hltrskltr on: July 13, 2008 10:33:09 AM
OK, so I'm completely obsessed with Across the Universe and the Beatles...at least I'm not alone. My best friend is equally (if not more) obsessed, and her birthday was a couple days ago, so...Across the Universe shirt!!!!
I took in a large white T shirt to fit her, then sewed on a huge strawberry made from random T shirt scraps, then I used fabric paint to do the seeds. THEN, I cut out the words "Nothing is Real" (from the song Strawberry Fields Forever) out of black T shirt fabric and sewed that on...that was going to be it, but I went on vacation and I was bored, so I embroidered and fabric painted more stuff...which you'll see in the pics:

strawberry detail (embroidered with fabric paint seeds):

quote detail (Living is easy with eyes closed, also from the song):

detail on back ("Strawberry" is embroidered, but it took me like 4 hours, so "Fields Forever" is fabric paint):

there were a couple holes in the back, so I covered them with some of these (just made out of fabric with fabric paint seeds):

back:

AND...on my new DRESS FORM with a skirt:

Guess what??? She liked it! YAY! here she is wearing it:

YAY! So...tell me what you think! I LOVE COMMENTS! =)
