1  Fruit Trees! Don't waste money on those edible arrangements! in Dessert by imforhim04 on: May 16, 2009 01:20:20 PM
So for my friends bridal shower a couple weekends ago, I made her these fruit trees. I made two. The total with all the fruit was $20 for two of these trees - half the cost of an actual edible arrangement, and for my price, I got two!

I used honeydew, muskmelon, pineapple, bananas and strawberries. I saved the top (leafy) part of the pineapple to stick the skewers in. A tip, place the top of the pineapple on a stable plate before starting, and ALSO: stick a piece of pineapple on the end of the skewer, it keeps the other fruit from sliding down the stick.

She loved these, and I'm still gloating mentally about how good they turned out, even though it was simple, and I'm sure anyone could do it..haha.

Ps) We used this for a fondue station....so yummy!

2  Louis Vuitton cake for my boyfriend's sister in Dessert by imforhim04 on: May 16, 2009 10:37:10 AM
So, I felt like being uber creative, so I decided to make this cake for my boyfriend's sister. She LOVES designer purses, so...I felt an itch of inspiration here.

This was my FIRST cake ever using fondant...and I think this cake weighed like 7-10lbs I SWEAR.

Sorry, I don't have a tut up yet, but basically, I took a strawberry pink cake mix, made the cake in a rectangle pan, and shaped it when cool to the shape of the purse. (Cut off the corners). I then added butter cream frosting, then rolled out white fondant. I cut and trimmed, and made the handle, and little pieces for the purse. I then took those cake gels and designed the purse. Pretty simple, but very hard if your a perfectionist..like me. THOUGH, this is far from perfect!

What ya think? =) Grin
