41  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / What Does the Fox Say?? on: October 08, 2014 12:23:04 PM
The world may never know.... Ooops that's from the Toostie Roll Pop commercial...

Sorry.... Now you will all have that song in your head for the rest of the day!

I stitched up this hoop for phoenixfiredesigns in the Little Visitor Swap.  I know she likes foxes and I found this super cute design on Urban Threads.  I stitched it up using a chain stitch, a little back stitching, and a satin stitched nose.

42  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Putz Style Haunted House on: October 08, 2014 12:16:48 PM
I made this we haunted house for quaggy in the Mini 13 Days of Halloween Swap.  I ordered the blank cardboard house on Etsy. Then I used papers, ink, etc from Retro Cafe Art to decorate it.  It was originally intended to be in the middle of a little graveyard but it didn't work out so I ditched the graveyard and just sent the house.

Here is a close up of the front of the house
43  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Eat Drink and Be Scary on: October 07, 2014 12:54:18 PM
I made this hoop for quaggy in the Mini 13 Days of Halloween swap.  It's the first time I have done a fill stitch for an entire project.  I got some advice from the resident stitching masters Ludi and kittykill on what stitches to use and ended up doing the split backstitch for the letters and a satin stitch on the bats and spider.  I am so happy with this hoop and I had a really hard time sending it away.

quaggy posted a few more photos of it in the gallery

The pattern was purchased from Urban Threads
44  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Halloween Blocks on: October 03, 2014 10:06:32 AM
I made these decorative blocks for quaggy in the Mini 13 Days of Halloween swap.  The first side I used my silhouette to cut out the word SPOOKY

I also decorated the other sides of the blocks so could mix it up.  Each block has one side decorated with these themes

I think next time it would be fun to do a side for all the different holidays rather than just Halloween.
45  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Crock Pot Applesauce on: October 01, 2014 01:28:28 PM

I have been wanting to try making homemade applesauce for a while now and had I known how easy it was I wouldn't have waited.  Our local grocery store had all kinds of apples on sale last week and I decided to finally give it a try.  I used Fuji Apples which I peeled and cut into chunks.  I tossed them in the pot with two tablespoons of water and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

They were cooked on low for 4 hours, then given a quick mash.  That's it. No added sugar and no preservatives. My kids gave it their stamp of approval!

46  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Home Sweet Home Hoopla on: September 15, 2014 09:45:59 AM
I made this hoop as my offering for September in the Ongoing Hoopla Along.  The theme this month is Home Sweet Home.  I found the pattern on Etsy printed it on to some Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy and stitched it up.

I made a few changes to the original such as I removed the light in the window and did a decorative border around the outside.

Here is a detail shot
47  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Fresh Skeleton Shirt on: September 03, 2014 01:19:34 PM
I made this shirt of a skeleton getting fresh in the 2011 round of the Mini 13 Days of Halloween swap for sweetyetevil.  It's a little hard to tell but the hands are strategically placed on the chest....
I hand cut the stencil out of freezer paper and used Simply Spray fabric paint for the design.

49  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Altered Halloween Tombstones on: August 21, 2014 03:34:12 PM
I am participating in a small Halloween swap that Retro Cafe Art Gallery is hosting.  We had to make a set of altered tombstones and these are what I will be sending in.  I used alcohol inks and book pages for the backgrounds.  It was my first time using the inks and I really like how they turned out.

Some blurry closeups

My favorite is the purple one
50  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Long Live the Queen Bee on: August 04, 2014 02:29:48 PM
I had purchased this wonderful Bee Shrine kit from Retro Cafe Art Gallery months ago and have been wanting to make it but have been busy with all kinds of swaps and real life.  Thanks to the Fake Swap Craftalong I was able to fake join the whimsical shrine swap and was inspired to pull it out.

I started by spray painting just about everything black and did a quick spritz of gold so there would be a little sparkle. Then I used some other paints I had on the hive.  I mixed some colors up to come up with the right coppery yellow I wanted.  When they were dry I pressed the yellow bits into an ink pad.  The torso is a piece of paper with yellow paint and painted black dots.

The wings were painted black and I painted some random holey paper then attached it.  I had the bee cut outs and wasn't quite sure what to do with them at first but then it hit me that they should be buzzing around their queen!  I just sandwiched some wire between two painted bees then attached them with glue and tape.

This is probably one of my most favorite altered items that I have done!  I am glad I get to actually keep this one!
