42  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Altered Halloween Tombstones on: August 21, 2014 03:34:12 PM
I am participating in a small Halloween swap that Retro Cafe Art Gallery is hosting.  We had to make a set of altered tombstones and these are what I will be sending in.  I used alcohol inks and book pages for the backgrounds.  It was my first time using the inks and I really like how they turned out.

Some blurry closeups

My favorite is the purple one
43  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Long Live the Queen Bee on: August 04, 2014 02:29:48 PM
I had purchased this wonderful Bee Shrine kit from Retro Cafe Art Gallery months ago and have been wanting to make it but have been busy with all kinds of swaps and real life.  Thanks to the Fake Swap Craftalong I was able to fake join the whimsical shrine swap and was inspired to pull it out.

I started by spray painting just about everything black and did a quick spritz of gold so there would be a little sparkle. Then I used some other paints I had on the hive.  I mixed some colors up to come up with the right coppery yellow I wanted.  When they were dry I pressed the yellow bits into an ink pad.  The torso is a piece of paper with yellow paint and painted black dots.

The wings were painted black and I painted some random holey paper then attached it.  I had the bee cut outs and wasn't quite sure what to do with them at first but then it hit me that they should be buzzing around their queen!  I just sandwiched some wire between two painted bees then attached them with glue and tape.

This is probably one of my most favorite altered items that I have done!  I am glad I get to actually keep this one!
44  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Silhouette Cameo Cut Notecards on: July 24, 2014 02:59:22 PM
I did a quick personal swap with sheepBlue for some beads and she requested more of the cards I had sent her a while back.

I experimented a bit this time and used blank cards and attached the cut designs with with spray on Tacky Glue.  I think this batch turned out much better and I can't wait to play with more designs, colors, etc.

These I left with blank spots so she can add some customization.  Maybe a stamped Thank You or something of the sort.

These foxes were left over from the last batch of cards and I didn't want them to go to waste.  I think next time I will also cut a small rectangle of black to put them on before attaching to the card.  Give a bit more dimension.

45  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Down the Rabbit Hole on: July 16, 2014 04:45:19 PM

I made this hoopla for luckdragon in the Ongoing Wish Swap.  I love how colorful and fun it is!  I also really enjoyed getting to use so many different colors.  I used the back stitch, a bit of satin stitching, and a few french knots.

The pattern is from Kitschy Digitals
46  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Fill Stitch Options?? on: July 15, 2014 10:01:27 AM
I am working on a hoop for a swap and there are some larger sized letters in the design.  I am thinking rather than just outlining them I want to fill them in.  Any suggestions for a fill stitch other than satin that would look good for letters?
47  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Sweet Cuppycake on: July 09, 2014 09:20:40 AM

I made this hoop for the Ongoing Hoopla Along.  The July theme was food and who doesn't love cupcakes?  I bought the cupcake pattern pack from Kimberly Ouimet on Etsy.  I love her patterns because she has all kinds of designs that you can play with to come up with your own original piece.  For this one I used the cupcake in the square then added the hearts.  I used a back stitch, lazy daisy, and some french knots in the hoop.  Now to find a space for it on my Hoopla Wall or pass it on to my daughter to hang in her room...

48  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Kumhimo Braided Bracelets on: July 02, 2014 12:42:58 PM
I have been wanting to try Kumihimo braiding for a very long time and bought a bunch of supplies about a year ago.  I kept putting it off though since it looks rather complicated.  I finally decided I was going to give it a try and watched some very helpful YouTube videos then gave it a go.  There are a ton of different braids to do but since I am a beginner I have only done the basic 8 strand.  This is my first 8 strand braid using beads.

The first one I made though was using satin cord.  If you are going to give this a try start with one of these.  It helps you to get the braiding down and you can really see what you are doing.

If you do not have a wist or pinterest, please have another way to show items to your partner that you like (etsy favorites, flickr, etc...)

*If you are sending BAKED GOODS, please only send them if you live in the same country as your partner. We do not need to tempt customs people to keep your package after you have worked so hard on it! Also, if you are sending baked goods you should make this the package that is opened on day 1!

*I highly recommend that you wrap your items in a plastic bag/trash bag/ or some other protective wrapping INSIDE the box you are sending. Things can get wet from rain and/or snow OR things can melt in hot temperatures.
