21  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Retro Camper on: December 15, 2014 09:29:47 AM
I was partnered with quaggy in Secret Santa Swap and I knew she liked hoops.  I browsed designs on Etsy and when I saw this one I knew it had to be made for her.  It's a Retro Camper by Lova Revolution

When I printed the design out I had meant to make it smaller so it would fit in a 6 or 7 inch hoop.  Ooops!  Luckily I had this big old hoop laying around which fit the design perfectly.  I also found it nice to stitch a bigger design.  It was a happy mistake!

The only issue I had is when I rinsed off the stabilizer it made the fabric wrinkle in a few places and I couldn't get them out even with the iron...
22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Felt House Ornaments on: December 12, 2014 08:36:13 AM
My partner in the Mini 12 Days of Christmas swap had these house ornaments pinned.  I clicked the link to the seller on Etsy PitterPattery and found that she sells them already assembled.  After some messaging back and forth she agreed to sell me the same set but just the pieces so that I could sew them up myself.  I made a set of four for the Sweat Shop Ornament Swap and a set of four for my 12 Days partner.

Here are the ones I sent to my partner in the 12 Days Swap

and this is the set I sent out for the Ornament Swap

I made this Christmas Kumihimo bracelet for Thimbles71 in the Mini 12 Days of Christmas Swap.
24  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Embroidered Ornaments on: December 09, 2014 12:20:07 PM
I made these two embroidered ornaments for Thimbles71 in the Mini 12 Days of Christmas swap.  They are done with a backstitch in 3 inch hoops.  The patterns are part of the Gingerbread embroider pattern pack from KimberlyOuimet

25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Mason Jar Ornament on: December 05, 2014 01:32:38 PM
I made this wee snowman ornament for my partner in the stocking swap.  I used a vintage snowman and glued him to flat part of a mason jar lid.  Then I glued that into the ring and embellished with some sparkles.  I cut two holes in the lid to add a pretty dangle and some twine so he can be hung on the tree.

26  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Vintage Winter Shrine on: December 05, 2014 01:20:59 PM
I made this shrine for kittykill as part of her goodies in the stocking swap.  I used the dyed tree I made a few weeks back and some cute resin deer inside.  The outside is painted then stamped with alcohol inks.  I also used a bit of faux snow.
27  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Christmas Doe on: December 05, 2014 01:09:56 PM
I seem to stitch a lot of deer around the holidays...

I stitched up this festive doe for kittykill for the stocking swap.  I got the pattern from Kitschy Digitals which has since closed up shop Sad  I decided to lots and lots of fill stitching again.  I was tempted to try my hand had adding in some other thread colors for more depth and detail but since this was for someone else I didn't go for it.

Here is a close up of the stitching

I had a hard time sending this hoop away but I know it's going to a good home!
28  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Coffee Love on: December 05, 2014 09:26:38 AM
I stitched this hoop up for my partner in the Mini 12 Days of Christmas swap.  She had it pinned and it was  free pattern from Wild Olive . Win win!
29  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Teen Girl Advent Calendar on: December 01, 2014 12:37:22 PM
Last year both my kids got a LEGO Advent Calendar but I think my daughter has grown out of those now.  I could have just gotten them each one with the little chocolates in it but couldn't resist another LEGO one for my son.  I tried to find something more age appropriate for a 14 year old girl but couldn't so I just made my own.

I bought a blank advent calendar kit online and used washi tape to decorate each box and number stickers to label them.

I was thinking of all kinds of little trinkets that I could fill it with other than just candy but those boxes are rather small...  So I decided to make her an Advent Charm bracelet.  The first box has a bracelet in it and each day has a new charm for her to add to the bracelet.

I hope she likes it... 13-14 is kind of a strange age and I can't seem to please her very often!!!
30  Category Challenges / Cooking: Challenge Entries / Super Easy Homemade Donuts on: November 24, 2014 08:39:45 AM
As a special Halloween treat I made Monster Donuts for my kids.  These actually came together super easy!  The secret??  Use pre-made canned biscuits!

You will need:

1 can biscuits, anything except flaky layers

3/4 cup oil

1/2 stick butter

1/2 cup sugar

2 TBS cinnamon

Any decorations that you choose, or you can leave them off

Heat your oil in a pan on medium heat then use a cookie cutter (or a shot glass like I did) to cut the center out of the biscuits.

Once your oil is hot put your biscuits in and turn once they are golden brown.  Cook until second side is browned then transfer to a plate.

Continue until all your donuts are cooked.

Mix your cinnamon and sugar in one bowl and melt your butter in a second bowl.

Dip each side of the donuts into the butter than into the cinnamon and sugar.

You can also fry up the dough you cut out to make the holes!

I then used melted chocolate to attach some edible eyes to make monster donuts for a hauntingly good breakfast.
