1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Holiday Handmade gift disappointment :( on: December 25, 2008 07:54:26 PM
I made presents this year for my MIL, SIL, mother and grandmothers and they all went over really well except for my mother in law of course.  I made her these napkins to match some placemats i picked up for her and the napkins have a pocket on the front when you fold them so you can put the silverware in them.  they took me forever and she was just like, oh...i've never used cloth napkins before I wonder if all the silverware will fit in here? ugh.  what's so hard about saying "thank you for caring enough about me to spend your time creating something for me that comes from the heart"?
On the other hand, my sister in law loved her custom glass coasters. and my mom & grandmothers absolutely loved their homemade snuggies.  so i guess all in all pretty positive results.
2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Mary Poppins and Bert the Chimney Sweep Costumes on: November 04, 2008 08:01:40 AM
Great costumes!!  When I was a little girl I watched Mary Poppins so much I could recite pretty much the whole movie from memory.  What a great idea for a family freindly costume, and you guys did it so well.

you guys look so cute.  my husband and i did juno & paulie too, but I had to settle for a brown shirt because i couldn't find the right orange striped one.

Thanks for the comments guys

Q.B.-I made our bruises and black eyes with a collection of dollar tree eye shadow in green, purple & black, then I used this old cover girl lip gloss to finish it off and take some of the glitter look out of the eye shadow.  I just kind of stood in front of the mirror and kept working with it till it looked right.

artist- thanks for the compliment, my husband will be psyched to hear someone else thinks he looks like Paulie Bleeker.  He is convinced that Michael Cera is his true doppleganger and that if they ever met in real life they would rip the space time continuum(lol).

Halloween is totally our favorite holiday and we had a blast with the 2 costumes this year.

This year my husband and I went to a couple of parties and we really don't like to repeat costumes.

So for the first party we went as Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac

And for the second one we went as Juno McGuff & Paulie Bleeker

I've got more details about how we made the belly and bruises in my costume thread here:

6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Juno & Paulie, on: November 03, 2008 06:34:17 PM
This year my dear husband and I had a bit of a disagreement on what to be for Halloween, but since we went to two parties it worked out just fine.

For the first party we went as Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac

I was really pleased with how the bruises came out, here's a close up of my black eye

Then on Halloween night we dressed up as Juno McGuff & Paulie Bleeker

My husband came up with a clever way to make a pretty realistic belly here's a close up of the belly

He cut a basketball in half, then turned it inside out and pushed the air valve out so it stuck out like a belly button.  Then we stuffed it really full with polyfil and I mad a kind of belly band out of nude swimsuit fabric.  It was awesome.  The belly button thing really freaked people out.  I'm already thinking of things to do for next year.

My husband & I are attending 2 Halloween parties this year and I'm not a big fan of repeating costumes so for the first party we're going as Fanny May & Freddie Mac.  We just made iron on t-shirts with the names on them and we're going to paint ourselves up like we've been beat up with big black eyes and such.

For the other party we're going as Juno & Pauly Bleeker.  We've got everything we need for that costume, but as others have mentioned they yellow shorts are a problem.  I think I'm going to have to just sew some yellow shorts for him.  They have bright yellow athletic fabric at JoAnn that will work, and I'm just going to modify a p.j. pants pattern for the shorts.  The Hubby works at a screen print shop so he got his sweatshirt printed for free & it looks like the real thing.

the rosemary smelled really good and every time one of the guys got a hug you got an extra whiff of it.  next step is to put the pictures in an album, haven't started that yet.  i'm not good at scrapbooking and it's kind of a daunting task for me.  thanks for all the nice comments though.

Thanks for the comment about the dress. I got it here http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=b55ac898-18fa-467f-8f36-1a945e143d20&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=1

That dress haunted my dreams.  I originally bought another dress at a dress sale that was pretty but the more I thought about this one the more I knew it was the the one.  I started having dreams about this dress and so finally less than a month before the wedding I woke up in a cold sweat at like 5 in the morning and just decided that I had to have it.  I mean you only get one wedding and you don't want to regret the dress you wore.  I'm so happy I did it too.  The dress was perfect.

Oooh, the tissue paper poms turned out wonderful. All the varying shades of green look fantastic to this green-obsessed girl. Just gorgeous! Is there a story to your leaf pin? It looked great on your dress. I like the rosemary corsage too, simple and elegant and green. Looks like you had a wonderful day! Congratulations!

Thanks for the comments on the poms, I also loved the poms at your wedding.  There's no real story to the pin.  I bought it a couple of years ago at my favorite thrift store and never wore it, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it.  Then I couldn't find a necklace that I liked because my engagement ring and my wedding band are gold (they are family heirlooms) and I don't usually wear gold, then I remembered the leaf pin and it looked perfect.

I got the idea for the rosemary boutonnieres from Martha's website.  Bonus of them is that every time someone hugged my husband or any of the guys wearing one they got a little burst of fragrance from the rosemary.
