721  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Vintage Apron Swap (Sign ups 7/13-7/27, Send by 8/25) on: July 23, 2008 07:04:56 PM
I know what you mean! I've been aching to go shopping... I live about 2 miles away from the absolute most awesome fabric store on earth.

Wow. I live in Durham, so it's about 3 hours away. Seems like it might be worth a day trip.

My Mum drives down from Maine to visit once or twice a year, and every time, she goes to Mary Jo's and loads up. Fabrics that cost her $14 a yard at the quilt shop she works at, she can get for $6/yd. There are some seriously good deals on high quality fabrics.

They have a huge collection of vintage reproduction print fabrics, and more batiks than you can imagine. I have a weakness for batiks. I sound like a sales person - I swear I don't work there! But maybe I ought, just for the employee discount!!! Between the discount and the paycheck, I might break even with my crafting. Or not.

=)

You are in luck, I organize some sort of postcard swap every few months.

Yay! I will definitely keep my eyes open for the next one, then! I adore making postcards.

How cool. Love the map covering.

That's awesome! I'm actually working on a magazine purse at the moment... Using all pictures from some travel mags about the Caribbean and Florida. I never thought of weaving it though. I'm making a bunch of the zig zag chains. =(  Wish I'd had your inspiration!!! It would be going much quicker.

LOVE the ad for the bottom of the bag. About how big is it? It looks like a comfortable size... enough to hold the necessities, but not too big to be overwhelming.

Oooh, this looks fun. I'm not eligible yet, as I'm still on my first swap, but hopefully there will be another swap like this soon.

I'm hoping to be inspired to use that embroidery pattern again, but on something else... I love it so much. What to do? I don't think I want to do sheets, like its meant for.

The tutu is loverly. Though, I have to admit, if that cape were in red... I'd be tempted to wear it while hanging my laundry on the line. Make the neighbors wonder...

=)

Those are great!

I need to get going on Christmas p.j.s for my kiddos, as well. We give them every Christmas Eve. The kids all pretend they have no idea what their Christmas Eve gift will be, and DH and I always pretend it's something different than last year. The kids seem to have a contest to see who can look the most genuinely surprised. Funny little tradition... in fact, it's what my parents did with my sisters and I till we all moved out!

So do you get the "You must be one busy lady" comments?! With my three step kids, and three kids of my own, I hear that ALL the time.

The outfit is so cute, as is the mini-model! I like the simplicity of the design... it doesn't overwhelm the busy-ness of the fabric. Plus, it looks super comfy, which is always great for little ones.
