i saw this on one of those food network shows... it wasn't "rocher on the road".... but that one where the younger guy would just go out in public and try things and make things for people ('midnight eats' maybe??)...

it looks good... it smells good.... and everyone on the show suprisingly liked it, i remember. i also heard raspberry and cheddar, swiss and grape are good combinations, but he was just drawing them out of a hat!

so.... are you brave enough? adventurous enough? i'd really like to know what people think of this!

so i want to make the cover sweater from interweave crochet's latest issue, and it calls for linked double crochet. problem is, i can't understand their tutorial. does anyone know this stitch or where i can find a clean tutorial for it??

so i recently inherited a stash of yarn from a friend of mine, and in it was this cream-colored handspun wool, which i really didn't have any use for.

....soooo....

another friend and i decided to take a stab at dyeing yarn!

we used a conglomeration of different methods we researched, but i do love the results!

here's a close-up

we call it "gooseberry heather"

and the process... the "vase" of kool-aid, water, vinegar, and, um.. yarn? noodles? worms? weird brain matter? it's sitting in a hot water bath on the stove

3.5 ounces, 100% wool, 3/4 cup vinegar, 2&3/4 cup water, 2 grapes and 1 cherry kool-aid!
needless to say, we're both addicted now!

so, i'd like to make a dress to kind of mirror another dress... but i'm clueless as to how to describe the neckline.



the gist of it is, there's a fabric collar, a sweetheart neckline, and mesh overlay leading from the dress up to the collar, and it would be symmetrical on the front and back, except the back of course wouldn't have the sweetheart shape, just straight across, but with a zipper hidden by a line of small, satin-covered buttons....

any idea on if this kind of nekcline actually has a name? i thought close to halter, but there's actually a back to it too....

any help would be great! THANKS!

so i went on a crochet spree for christmas... bad idea. not that i'm burned out on crochet, i'm just not the fastet. my cousin can whip out a pair of mittens in a little over an hour.... i take about three. but without further ado, here's some of the projects i've done so far.


shell stitch cap, done in caron simply soft cream color. i made another one in navy blue with a tassel on the top and i think i like that one better, but i gave it to my mittens cousin.

and another hat i made for my boy ex. bernat cashmere in coal (great yarn.... i heart!! but definitely make sure you have the same dye lot). half-double crochet, extra long so he can fold it up as much as he likes.

okay, so here's my thing - for some reason my friends tell me i crochet kinda tight, so if you're a looser crochet-type person, i'd use a smaller hook

Caron simply soft yarn, 5.0mm hook

to start, ch 4, join w/ sl st
Rnd 1: hdc 6 in ring
Rnd 2: hdc 2 in each st (12)
Rnd 3: *hdc 1 in first st, then hdc 2 in next. Repeat * around (18)
Rnd 4: *hdc 1 in first 2 st, hdc 2 in third. Repeat * around (24)
Rnd 5: *hdc 1 in first 3 st, hdc 2 in fourth. Repeat * around (30)
Rnd 6-7-8: continue increasing (36, 42, 48)
Rnd 9: *sc in first st, skip 2, dc 5 in next, skip 2, sc in next. Repeat * around (shell row)
Rnd 10: *tc in each sc, then dc, hdc, sc, hdc, dc across shell. Repeat * around
Rnd 11: *hdc 1 in first 7 st, hdc 2 in eighth. Repeat * around (54)
Rnd 12-13: increase (60, 66)

so i wanted a twist on traditional pecan pie this year, and i researched some recipes for pecan apple pie, but i wasn't satisfied, so i made up my own!



it actually set up pretty well - the only thing i didn't like was we only had light karo syrup, and it definitely needs dark....

deep dish pie plate
crust (either frozen or make your own)
1 small can apple pie filling
3 eggs
1/3 cup butter, melted
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 cup pecan halves

prepare crust as directed, preheat oven to 375.
spread a layer of apple pie into the bottom of your crust (we used about 2/3 of the can).
in separate mixing bowl, hand beat eggs, melted butter (wait until it cools or you'll cook your eggs!), sugar, and dark corn syrup. stir in pecans and pour over apples, spreading out evenly over apple pie mix.
bake in preheated oven 40-50 minutes or until *sharp* knife comes out clean.

voila! ... and you thought i made it all from scratch 

so my man is seriously lactose intolerant, like even whey products are a no-no, and lactaid and stuff like that doesn't seem to help.

he likes sweets.

and he can eat dark chocolate, because it doesn't usually have any milk products in it, but neither one of us like the taste very well. so my question is:

has anyone ever messed with tempering dark chocolate with some sort of non-dairy creamer? to make like an actual candy bar? liquid or powder???

i somehow got bit by the crafting bug at midnight last night, so i started working on this bag. i intended it to be longer than it is tall, but definitely mismeasured that one. at least all the pieces fit!

i wish you could see the pleating details but my flash is apparently a little bright... there are eight pleats on each side!
the red fabric is a deep red soft textured vinyl from wal-mart. our joann's went under in the recent flood
