so, i'd like to make a dress to kind of mirror another dress... but i'm clueless as to how to describe the neckline.
the gist of it is, there's a fabric collar, a sweetheart neckline, and mesh overlay leading from the dress up to the collar, and it would be symmetrical on the front and back, except the back of course wouldn't have the sweetheart shape, just straight across, but with a zipper hidden by a line of small, satin-covered buttons....
any idea on if this kind of nekcline actually has a name? i thought close to halter, but there's actually a back to it too....
so this is the scarf i made for my boyfriend for valentine's day... used single crochet, bernat cashmere for the gray yarn and i don't remember what i used for the black, but he likes it, and he wears it on tv all the time, so i'm happy!
yay!! mary janes!!! it somehow never ceases to amaze me how i can use the same pattern, yarn, and hook and still end up with two slightly different items... or maybe my feet are just weird.
anywho, i used the mary jane slipper tutorial off of our wonderful crochet tutorial list, though i did modify it. i used one strand of lion brand homespun together with one strand of caron simply soft in purple, used a k (6.5mm) hook, and used rounds of 6, 12, 18, and 24 single crochet instead of half-double. it produced a really nice, stiff "fabric"... i think they'll hold up nice!
anyway, onto the pics!
here's a front view..... (love the way the homespun kind of modulates from blue undertones to brown...)
and a side view....
i think i'm going to add another row across the top of the slipper from the back of the band around the heel, help it stay on a little better.
and the button!
no, i didn't deface government property - i just found these awesome quarter shank buttons. i think i now have an obsession with shank buttons!
yay! here's my mom's scarf! i used this pattern (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=184231.0) from cynalune, but i added an extra row of modified shells around the outside before adding the border. its sooooo long becuase i somehow miscounted my starting chain by about 70.... ooop! i guess that's what stitch markers are for!
and a detail shot...for some reason, my middle doesn't look anything like cynalune's but i followed the pattern exactly... oh and btw i used caron simply soft again, size 5 hook
i actually finished the mittens (red heart in pink camo) but i accidentally gave them away without getting a picture first. oops.
i did however, make the cutest little tags for them. i had a 1 7/8" circle punch, and i stamped and embossed the hands in black and wrote "made" underneath (get it? handmade?). added a scrapbooking rivet in black, and wrote the care instructions on the back. i attached them with a bit of scrap yarn and a small safety pin.
another filet scarf - this one is for my graduating music-major friend, who i also going into teaching, as i did.
the yarn is caron simply soft shadows in mardi gray - it actually looks a lot more gray in real life because there's really only one colored thread.. for some reason only the colors show up in the picture. but, whatever works! and it's super long too.... cozy....
