21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Amigurumi Addiction on: July 29, 2010 06:40:01 PM

Just curious to see if anyone would be interested in an amigurumi swap for one small ami, bought extras allowed within reason.  Kind of a One Tiny Thing swap, in that it is very low stress.

How does that sound?
22  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / That's just Smurfy! on: July 23, 2010 01:36:57 PM
After following an odd lyrical sound into the depths of my garden, imagine my surprise when I found a little helper hiding in the vines!

He really smurfs going about barefoot on the grass.

When he came inside to launder his pants, he was quite taken with a pillow I received in the OTET swap.

His smurfy little tail & self.

Reading our school dictionary.

Standing alone, without any propping!

I need to work on the pattern a bit more, but I love him.  Just not sure which one he is.

Smurfy crafting!

24  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Invite Your Partner Round 16 (Sign-ups June 24- July 22; Send-out by Aug 31) on: June 23, 2010 09:56:25 PM

IYP 12 Discussion
IYP 12 Gallery
here is the Gallery for round 6, the April Affair and Round 5, The January Jamboree Gallery

Heres how it works:

In this swap, you can contact anyone and ask them to be your partner. It's almost like a personal swap, but with a group, and a killer gallery! You will have to sign up with your partner. That is, you must contact your potential partner via pm and you both must mutually agree to be partnered together. Once you have a partner, each of you must pm me ((Goldfishpollywog))   with your information, and after doing all the necessary double checking, I will post you both together as participants and add this swap to your "In progress" feedback.

Swappers may have two partners this round! However, if you have any instances of 'poor swapping' documented in your feedback (such as 'no communication' 'did not craft in the spirit of the swap') or numerous instances of sending very late, I ask that you only craft for one partner. You may have no more than two partners.

As partners, you will choose if you want to have a theme, if you want to post stalk each other and be surprised, or if you want to request from each other things you have admired in the past. You should also agree on quantity. I would suggest one "large" (time consuming and/or valuable) item, and a couple of "small" (quicker to craft) items that you know your partner will like. Unless you choose otherwise. Feel free to start crafting for your partner as soon as you are both officially signed up!

If you want to participate, but you are a bit shy of just asking someone, you can PM Goldfishpollywog, and you'll be put on a list of "Potential Partners" in the next post, so people can choose from craftsters that are interested.

 RULES:
swappers will receive temporary negative feedback if:
- it is one week past send-outs and you are out of communication
- it is two weeks past send-outs and you have not yet sent, regardless of the communication with us and your partner.
- you cannot sign up for this swap if you are still currently late in any IYP swaps.

Even if you decide with your partner that you are sending late and she/he says its alright, you MUST send by two weeks past the send out date or this will be reflected in negative feedback. once you do send, you will have positive feedback again, BUT this late sending will be reflected in your comments even if you communicated.

another idea is to at least send some of what you have made your partner by the send out date and if you want to send more later because she sent so much, shes so cool, you ran out of time, thats fine! because you already sent!
THIS IS A VERY IN DEPTH SWAP AND WE ARE TRADING WITH PEOPLE WE LIKE. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY AND BE READY TO SEND ON TIME!

ONE NOTE: It is a little scary to ask someone to be your partner. Some people may have someone else already in mind, or they may not have the time or funds to participate right now, or they may just not be interested. We need to remember to be nice if we feel we need to refuse someone, and to not take it personally if someone else turns us down.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Contact your partner (make sure they're in good standing, swapwise), and agree to join together
2. Both partners must PM goldfishpollywog and each other with mailing information.  Please also send your mailing info to your partner.
3. Post in this thread so I can keep up with you!
4. Make sure you can mail on time, and provide BOTH organizers with a DC number when you do.
5. PM your partner and organizer when you receive as well! Your partner CANNOT get feedback unless you PM us. Thank your partner both in a PM and publicly in the gallery. If you are unable to post pictures, please let your partner know before they send to you. In this case, you still need to post in the gallery about what you received.
6. Lack of PMs to organizer and your partner will be noted in feedback!!!
7. Have fun!

Now, on to the good stuff:

26  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / IYP16? Summertime Swing on: May 28, 2010 07:06:28 PM

We haven't had an Invite Your Partner Swap since January.  Is anyone interested?  I don't mind organizing if we can wait until mid-June for sign-ups.  Whatcha think?  Same setup as usual.  One month of sign-ups and a month and a half crafting?
27  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / OTET: One Tiny Embroidered Thing Sign ups until June 5th/ Send-outs July 12th on: May 25, 2010 11:27:02 PM
One Tiny Embroidered Thing Swap OTET
Sign-ups May 26 to June 5  with Partners given on June 7
Send Out Deadline is July 12

Swap Information:
The idea is to make one tiny hand-embroidered craft item. It should be physically small and should be something that you can craft with a high level of skill. Even if it is a fairly simple/easy item for you to make, please embellish so that it best represents your skill. (For example, if you wish to make a coin purse, you could embroider, add beading, or take other steps to make it a really special piece.)
You will receive only one partner.
You may only send that partner ONE tiny Embroidered craft - no extras as part of this swap.
All items must be 4"x4" or smaller, or fold and nicely fit a 4x4 space.
Here is  a link to the discussion thread thread
goldfishpollywog and belladune are your organizers.  We will be matching partners as quickly as possible, to the best of our abilities.
To Keep this Swap Happy and free of Flakes, please post in this thread or PM one of the organizers at least every two weeks.  Just pop in to let us know how your craft is coming, or comment on something said in the thread.   If you are going to be without internet access for a while, just post and let us know.  That way we won't worry about you.
I reserve the right to refuse anyone. If you have feedback that shows a history of incomplete packages, very late sending, ill-communication, lack of DC #'s, etc. I may refuse you. I want this to be a flake-free swap!

Here are a few projects that I have found on Craftster that should provide inspiration

simple dolls embroidered with favorites
Embroidered Greeting Cards
Cup Cozy
Mini pillows
Small pouch or sachet
Embroidered Badges or Patches

29  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Ami Amore on: March 26, 2010 12:01:50 PM
Last year I picked up my hooks to learn standard crochet (I'd only made round rugs before) and discovered that I think in circles.  So I began looking for something I could make beside rugs and stumbled upon Amigurumi!

Now, it is a love, I can keep a tiny ball of yarn in my pocket and play with my hooks wherever!  Waiting for my little goose to finish eating at the Food Court, I whip up a turtle or finger puppet.  Instant gratification! Grin Cheesy

Here is my story:

My little goose bought me an ami book in December and I learned the magic circle, increasing, and decreasing and made

A jellyfish out of Sugar and Cream without any sort of pattern at all.

Nice, but my goose wanted something more suiting him.  So to keep him occupied and impressed with the awesomeness known as Mom, I made a Luma.
Using a free pattern from http://wolfdreamer-oth.blogspot.com/2009/08/luma-plushie.html
I know I stumbled upon it using someone's tagline here, so thanks whoever-you-were!

Around this time, I noticed Angry Angel's post for tiny turtles and my hook was hooked Wink

For perspective, here is the smallest, which fits on a nickel without any part hanging over the sides.

From there, I've just played a bit with magnets

And made a gnome for the FOC Raffle,

Many other goodies have fallen off my hook, only to be given over to friends who love them.
 A parting group shot

Dust off your yarn and let's get playing![/size]
For those who are interested..."Ami" means knit/crochet in Japanese and "nuigurumi" means stuffed creature, so amigurumi is a stuffed knit/crochetted creature.  Well, that is simple and can mean just about anything from a bobomb in your pocket to the little hooked kitty sitting on your shelf.  Often cute or fanciful and not commonly large, amigurumi is an enjoyable craft with a nice finished product even for beginners.

Some previous Ami Galleries:

Where do you find patterns for amigurumi? All over the internet are quite a few sites that have free amigurumi patterns.  Some require registration, some don't.  Of course Craftster is my favorite. But here are a few that I have found.
http://freeamigurumipatterns.blogspot.com/
http://craftlog.org/craftingjapanese/archives/amigurumi/ -a diverse site with a lot of pictures and some good links.
http://artangel-sol.livejournal.com/
http://www.lionbrand.com
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=284386.0

If you can't find what you are looking for, but really prefer a pattern, you might try this site.
Etsy is always an option also, or just "wing" it.
